Welcome to the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection. We hope you’ll take a minute to explore all the ministries and opportunities we offer and plan to visit one of our campuses in Leawood, Olathe, Blue Springs or Downtown Kansas City this weekend or join us for worship online.
In 1990 Resurrection was a small, upstart church with a big dream of becoming a church that welcomes thinking people who were not actively involved in a church. Our first 25 years have been an amazing journey with thousands of people finding greater hope, purpose and meaning in their lives here. And, they’ve found that a church like this can quickly become a great place for personal connections and relationships that will last a lifetime.
The life of our church is guided by three statements:
Come dream with us as we continue our journey of knowing, loving and serving God in the greater Kansas City community and the world.
In August 2005, the call went out for people who were willing to start a second Resurrection location. By October, more than 100 households had signed up to launch Resurrection West in Olathe, Kansas. Our enthusiastic start-up congregation first met July 20, 2006, in Olathe. More than 700 people seeking to know, love, and serve God worshiped at the official launch of Resurrection West on August 20.
The congregation was eager to serve and participated in community serving opportunities and sent the first Resurrection West mission team out to help with hurricane relief in Mississippi. Small groups met for learning and connection, leading to the leasing of an Activity Center near the Resurrection West offices to be used for weekday classes and activities.
Our development team studied the community, dreamed and planned, and in 2009, a permanent location for Resurrection West was found on a 23-acre parcel of land at the southwest corner of the K-7 and K-10 intersection in Olathe.
The first building would be approximately 19,000 square feet and was planned to be open for Christmas 2011 but would allow this campus to grow in ministry for years to come. We launched a capital campaign to raise funds for the project and, thanks to the generosity of a congregation fully engaged in our purpose, our brand new church building opened even earlier than we had planned.
Before the first worship service, our church prayed over every seat volunteers gathered to read the entire Bible aloud in the new building. On December 4, 2011, more than 1400 gathered to worship at Resurrection West’s new home – plus 340 children in Sunday School!
We are building a church that will reach people for generations to come – there’s a spirit of excitement at what God is doing here!Campus Pastor Jason Gant
