Resurrection West,

Good morning! Tomorrow is the FALL FESTIVAL from 5-7 pm with fireworks following! Thank you to the dozens who have signed up to serve, and even more who have invited guests. Take time today to invite at least one household you know to join us for inflatables, petting zoo, games, trunk-or-treat, corn maze, costume fun, pumpkins, food, live music, and more! Plus we are closing out the night with an awesome fireworks extravaganza! Join me in praying for hearts to be opened to come, safety, and for great weather.

Every fall we gather our West staff team for a planning retreat day away. During this time, we celebrate what God has done in the past year (which I'll share in a teaching series in November), we have a focused time of devotion and prayer, we discuss key events for the next year, and we have some fun team building.

Rick Webb, youth pastor, led us in team-building time with a friendly competition of the popular Breakout Room board game he’d used in a recent Wednesday night youth group. I remember my daughter coming home and sharing that her team didn’t beat the challenge at Youth Group. She and I are both very competitive and I may (or may not) have commented that I believed I could beat the game. Well, now I know just how difficult it is and came home to eat some humble pie with my daughter. God’s Spirit's learnings sure do come in many forms!

Here is a pic of our Resurrection West staff team (missing from the photo: James, Lynnlea, & Vince)I'm so honored to serve alongside these amazing people!

This Sunday we will grow together as disciples as we begin a new two-week series entitled Ordinary - Experiencing God in the day-to-day. All too often we limit God by thinking God will only meet us in the biggest moments of life... and God certainly does meet us there, but what about in the day-to-day? How does God’s power and presence meet us in the in-between times of life?

Invite a friend this week as Rev. Scott Chrostek preaches and guides us into a deeper understanding of meeting God in the ordinary this Sunday - and remember we have plenty of room at the 8 am & 5 pm worship services!

Upcoming Events & Activities

Fall Festival at RezWest

Saturday, October 7, 5-7 pm (stay for fireworks)

Join Resurrection West as we come together and celebrate the fall season. We’ll have lots of fun activities for families including a corn maze, pumpkins, inflatables, face painting and more. Kids, be sure to wear your costume for “Trunk-or-Treat.” Come for dinner, stay for the fun and FIREWORKS! Invite your friends and neighbors!

Sign Up to Serve and Share | Fall Festival Oct. 7!

This is our opportunity to invite friends and neighbors into our faith community to share in a night of fun and fellowship! It takes the body of Christ, working together, to make this event a success. We need donations and hands-on service. Three different service shifts are available and are just 45 minutes each, which allows you to come serve AND enjoy the event with your family. Fall Fest committee members will be present at every service this Sunday to answer questions and help you sign-up to serve. You may also sign-up online by clicking here.

Third Grade Bible Sunday

Each year Resurrection West continues the Methodist tradition of presenting all 3rd grade students with a Bible of their very own. We’re excited to provide all 3rd graders with a personalized, age-appropriate Bible and pray this gift will help them go deeper in their relationship with God.

The presentation ceremony will take place during worship services on November 12, 2017. Registration is required, but there is no fee. You may select your preferred service time: 8, 9:30, 11 or 5 pm. Services are considered full once a set number of registrations is reached. If you are unable to attend, please register regardless. Make the appropriate selections and we will reserve a personalized Bible for your child.

Register directly by clicking HERE and then scrolling down to the November listing of events and selecting the 2017 West 3rd Grade Bible Presentation. Add the event to your cart and remember to checkout to ensure your registration is complete.

Neighborhood Food Drive

Homerun for Hunger! Help hit hunger out of the park in Kansas City this fall during the Neighborhood Food Drive. Pick up a food donation bag at the back of the Sanctuary and consider taking extras to share with neighbors or co-workers. Recent statistics show that one out of seven people in the greater Kansas City area will seek help this year for food insecurity. Please return donations to Resurrection West by Sunday, October 8. For more information, contact Chris.Holliday@cor.org.

Monday Morning Women’s Bible Study

Will begin a 4-week study Oct. 9, 9:30-11:30 am at RezWest in Room 003. The study will cover the prayer guidance book, Before Amen, by Max Lucado. Books are optional and are available for $10.87. To purchase a book or for more information, contact Margee Castle at macastle75@gmail.com.

Christmas in October

Saturday, October 14, 8 am – 5 pm

Serve with us as we partner with Christmas In October to rehabilitate the residences of lower-income homeowners in the Kansas City area at no cost to them. Through Christmas in October, Resurrection has become a major force in helping elderly, disabled and veteran homeowners remain in their homes. Sign up to help with winterization, painting, yard cleanup and minor repairs.

This year, Resurrection West is sponsoring two houses in Olathe (House 1 and House 20 on the registration form), with 25 spots available that we hope to fill with Resurrection West folks. For more information and/or to register, visit cor.org/christmasinoctober.

Serve with FaithWork

Saturday, October 14, 9–11:30 am

Meet in the Resurrection West sanctuary for prayer, breakfast snacks and instructions, then help serve our neighbors near and far by participating in several awesome and kid-friendly mission projects, including boxing up “Homerun for Hunger” food donations for distribution to local pantries.

All ages are welcome. No sign-up required; just come and serve. For more information, contact Travis.Morgan@cor.org.

Home Run for Hunger: Special Opportunity this Sunday!

If you’d like to further contribute to the food drive, you can give financially at the food cart in the back of the sanctuary. Thanks to David Ball of Ball's Food Stores, we are able to offer cans of vegetables for 50 cents each. Thus, $6 buys a case and $60 buys a vertical stack. If we buy all the cans, they are only 45 cents each; so, $270 buys the whole cart! Of course, donate any amount you wish. We’ll let you know how many carts and bags were donated and distributed to local food pantries.

Disaster Relief Opportunities

Resurrection will be sending teams to help in the clean-up and recovery efforts in Texas and Florida. We are currently finding out how, where and when we are most needed. For information about serve trips, required certifications (begin these as soon as possible) and other opportunities to help, visit cor.org/serve and click on the disaster response slide.

Blood Drive

Monday, November 20, 1-7 pm

Give Blood, Save a Life! Share the gift of life by supplying much-needed blood donations. Anyone who is healthy, at least 16 years old (under 18 needs parental consent) and weighs at least 110 pounds may donate blood. Make an appointment at savealifenow.org and enter sponsor code "rezwest."

Contact Bob Hite, 913-209-2045 or bobhite1@gmail.com for more info.

New Small Group forming for Empty Nesters

Update from our Nursery

If you've ever entered the glass doors of the main level KiDSCOR Nursery then you've seen the bright smile of Malerie Luttrell. With much thought and prayer, Malerie has decided it's time to step down as Nursery Coordinator.

Resurrection West has been so blessed through Malerie's service and work - it's no small feat ensuring our youngest are safe, cared for and welcomed by trained volunteers and staff each week! Though we're sad to no longer have Malerie on staff we look forward to seeing the Luttrell family at West as they continue being active members and friends in our community.

Be sure to tell Malerie what her work has meant to you the next time you see her!
