I’m writing to you this morning from Chicago. My daughter Hailey and I have been here since Tuesday celebrating her birthday. She turned thirteen yesterday and we will head home on the train later today.
Scharme and I have been planning for a long time to celebrate both of our daughter’s thirteenth birthdays with a dad/daughter trip and a mom/daughter trip when they turn sixteen. Hailey and I have enjoyed some great bonding together with a trip to the Field Museum, the Art Institute, deep dish pizza, and lunch in Chinatown.
Last night was the pinnacle moment as we experienced Hamilton the musical together. She’s been obsessed with the award-winning musical since she was eleven! Part of our experience has been to have some great discussion around who she is becoming in her identity with Christ. We’ve been discussing ten characteristics that someone should have to be in a relationship with her - not that she will be dating anytime soon - but it is an important exercise as we begin to approach her high school years. I’m grateful to have this time with her after a busy winter of mission and ministry.
This Sunday we will continue our Lenten series called The Walk: Five Essential Practices of the Christian Faith. Reverend Wendy Chrostek will be preaching via video with an inspiring and heartfelt message on the essential of growing in the study of Scripture. Wendy serves as the Senior Director of Congregational Care at Resurrection Leawood.
God speaks to us so vividly in Scripture and the Bible is both complex and beautiful, so I hope you’ll join me and my family in worship this Sunday at 8 am, 9:30 am, 11 am, and 5 pm. We have KiDSCOR Sunday School for 5th grade and under at all services. Rezlife 6th-8th grade Sunday School at 9:30 am and 11 am.
Looking forward to worship on Sunday,
