Hi Resurrection Overland Park,
The Memorial Day Weekend is here, the unofficial start to summer, and a different start than we ever imagined. I am sure many of you had to change your plans. I know our students in KiDSCOR and Rezlife are realizing their summers will look different from previous years. We continue to get through this together!
Please know that our staff team is here for you each week through online gatherings, online coffee break conversations, and pastoral care, counseling, and financial care for anyone who has need. I continue in the hope we'll be able to gather again, soon.
This weekend in worship, Pastor Adam will share a special Memorial Day message focused on remembering, how we remember, and Jesus' command to remember him always. The Memorial Day Weekend is a time for us to remember loved ones who have passed and honor those who sacrificed for our country. If you need a quiet place to pray and reflect, the campus has a small Memorial Garden with a bench on the westside (Woodward Street). It is only large enough for one or two people at a time so, if you do stop by, please practice social distancing.
Join us for worship this weekend – we'll have beautiful music and an encouraging message. Invite a friend to join you on online Saturday at 5 pm or Sunday at 7:30 am, 9:15 am, 11 am, or 5 pm. Go to cor.org/live. In addition to streaming worship on our website, we are able to broadcast our service at 11 am on local Kansas City channel 41 (KSHB).
We have experienced a more than 300% increase in families served through the Food Pantry. Your generosity, along with grants and partnerships with Harvesters as well as the Resurrection Mission staff, has enabled us to feed our community.
Our next Pop-Up Food Drive is Saturday, May 30, from 9 am to 11 am in honor of fallen Overland Park Police Officer Mike Mosher. His family was delighted to know that his commitment to serving others continues as we provide food to people in our community. Please join us by honoring his legacy and participating. You can drop off canned fruits and vegetables, boxed goods, cereal, household goods, and other items at the campus. Simply drive up, stay in your vehicle and pop the truck.
Because of COVID-19, we have changed our plans for in-person Vacation Bible Camp this year. However, VBC is still happening July 20-24 in a new and exciting way!
We are planning “VBC On-the-Go” for preschool to fifth-grade children and their families. We’ll provide a VBC kit full of awesome activities, a t-shirt, online videos, and resources to connect to our content on social media. It will be a fun and easy way to learn how we can all Live Like a Champ!
I'm guessing most of us are looking for ways to manage our physical, mental, and emotional health right now. I am, too! Typically, I run to stay healthy and as a way to engage my faith in Christ. Every year Runner's World Magazine hosts a run streak designed to keep people running through the summer, and to bridge the gap between Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. It's easier to stay motivated if you have a goal.
Our goal is simple: run (or walk) at least one mile per day, every day, starting Monday, May 25, and ending July 4. That's 41 consecutive days of running (or walking)! You can be fast, slow, or somewhere in-between.
I think this will be fun. I invited a bunch of people to join me for this run (or walk) streak. I plan to stay active on social media to keep us motivated. If you'd like to participate, send me a personal message on Facebook, find me @revjoshua on Twitter, or Instagram. If you are a runner and on the app, find me on Strava. We'll use the hashtag #RWRunStreak and #RezOP.
I am grateful for the ways you reflect and embody Christ. You are making a difference. Last week, Pastor Adam mentioned in his enote that our leadership team determined we will continue with online worship at least until July 12, and possibly not return to in-person worship until the new school year in August. We will continue to meet in online groups. We made the decision to postpone regular gatherings for adults, students, and children.
Know that I am looking forward to when we can gather again in person. I’ll see you in worship online.
