Hi Resurrection Overland Park,

This morning I am enjoying my morning cup of coffee as I make final preparations for the sermon this weekend. I’d love for you to join me in worship! I’ll preach live at Resurrection Overland Park as we continue the sermon series Words of Life: Reading the Ten Commandments Through the Eyes of JesusThis weekend, we will focus on the 7th commandment, "Do not commit adultery," as we give attention to Jesus’ invitation to faithfulness in our relationships, our hearts, and our lives. We will also share in communion together. You won’t want to miss worship this weekend!

This week we welcomed 34 adults and 6 children as new members of our campus and Church of the Resurrection through Coffee with the Pastors. I am energized by what God is doing in our community as we grow!

We have a few things coming up. Check them out below!

The Pursuit of God: Doubt, Faith, and Daily Life

Join me for a new four-week class this October. I’m teaching this class on Monday nights, 6:30 to 8 pm, October 7, 14, 21, 28. Join me and bring a friend, too! We will explore what it means to pursue God even in our doubt, within our faith, and in daily life. What draws us to faith? What repels us and sends us running from faith? What does a vibrant faith look like? We’ll ask these questions and look to develop practical tools meant to deepen and enrich the life of faith.

Let me know if you’d like to participate by registering here, but you can simply show up to all or any of the classes. Childcare is available, but please register for that in advance here.

Christmas in October, Saturday Oct. 12, 8:30 to 3:30

As a community, we worship together, but we also serve together beyond the walls of the church. This fall we are partnering with Christmas in October, a local nonprofit that rehabilitates lower-income homes in the Kansas City area at no cost to the homeowner.

The goal is to help elderly, disabled, and veteran homeowners remain in their homes. We will help winterize, paint, clean up yards, and provide minor repairs. Anyone 14 and older can participate and it’s a great opportunity to make a connection with someone at church! Register online here.

Getting Started Gathering, October 20, 12:30

If you are looking for a way to get involved, connected, or simply want to know a bit more about our church, join me and our staff team for a 45-minute gathering right after Sunday worship. Contact with questions or to let us know you’ll be there by registering here.

Save the date for…Trunk or Treat, October 26, 4-6 pm

Join us for a family-friendly, fun Trunk-or-Treat on Saturday, October 26, 4-6 pm. We are even planning to have a Food Truck, DIY caramel apples, pumpkins to paint, and games to play! Kids are encouraged to wear costumes and trick or treat in the Resurrection Overland Park parking lot.

We need you to help us with this event! Can you decorate the trunk of your car to serve as a candy station? Or even do something as simple as donating candy? If so, please contact or register here.

Sprinkler System Pipe Failure

One last thing. Thursday, early in the morning, the building experienced some sort of pipe failure in the Early Learning Center that set off the sprinkler system resulting in massive amounts of water in the classrooms in the Daycare wing of the ELC. The water also leaked into the church office, but with damage mostly to the carpet and not the workspaces.

Our teams were immediately on the clean-up process, in partnership with Service Masters, and will be working as quickly as possible to help the ELC get back up and running at full strength. Our Sunday services and Sunday school classes will not be impacted. We really have an incredible team that worked hard and fast!

I am looking forward to seeing you Sunday!
