An Important Weekend for Our Church

Hello Resurrection Overland Park,

I spent the week out of the office, moving way too many boxes, as Claire and I settled into our new home in one of the neighborhoods near Resurrection Overland Park.

We feel grateful for the time away, which has been rejuvenating and restorative for us. This week, like many of you, I watched the increase in COVID numbers along with new guidelines for gathering restrictions in the metro area.

As a church, we decided the best way for us to lead and love our neighbors is to pause our in-person worship services and return to online worship only. You likely read Pastor Adam's special enote Tuesday. If you weren't able to, you can read his message here and better understand the decision-making process.

While not ideal, we've received many positive responses from our community leaders, including hospitals and school districts. Keeping each other safe is important.

I do hope you'll plan to worship with us online or on the television broadcast.

This Weekend in Worship

This weekend in worship, we continue our sermon series Uncommon Generosity as Pastor Adam preaches a sermon called, "Take Hold of the Life that Really is Life." I am inspired by the stories of generosity we've shared and find that I am better able to live with generosity toward others because of the stories. We will take a look at Paul's words in 2 Corinthians and Timothy.

Invite a friend and join us Saturday (5 pm) or Sunday (7:30 am, 9:15 am, 11 am, or 5 pm) at cor.org/live or on Channel 38 "The Spot" at 8 am or 11 am.

This is an important weekend as we consider our own uncommon generosity by presenting our giving commitments for 2021. Claire and I have prayed about our giving and we are praying for you, too.

Together, our giving makes possible the mission and ministry of our church. You have a far-reaching impact. All that we do as a campus and as a church is not possible without your generosity. Click here to see what uncommon generosity has made possible and to find resources for determining your investment in Church of the Resurrection's continued ministry.

Take a moment to fill out your online commitment card here. Each household that returns a commitment card will receive our 2021 Resurrection coffee mug! You can drive by and pick your mug up between 12:30-2:30 this Sunday by driving up to the main entrance at the campus. You can also pick up your Advent kits at the same time if you ordered one. We'll be ready for you!

Upcoming Advent Activities

Amazingly, the Advent season is around the corner – it begins next weekend. We want to invite you and your family to participate in worship from home by lighting an Advent wreath from home. You can purchase an Advent wreath kit for $5, complete with a weekly guide, devotion, fun crafts and activities, and an Advent wreath. Click here to sign up for a kit. We also have free KiDSCOR Activity Kits for our children.

Pick-up for the Advent kits will be in a drive-up format at the main entrance at the following times:

  • Sunday, November 22: 12:30–2:30 pm
  • Sunday, November 29: 12:30–2:30 pm
  • Monday, November 30: 5–7 pm

Another upcoming Advent activity will be an Advent Study with Pastor Joshua on Thursday evenings, Dec. 3, 10 and 17, at 7 pm via Zoom. Please sign up here. We'll take a look at the themes of Advent as we prepare for the coming of Christ.

Also, we are planning for a family-friendly, fun, socially distanced, outdoor Advent Experience on Saturday morning, December 12. This will be a Christmas to remember, for sure! We are still finalizing plans, but you'll want to mark the date on your calendar.

Serve Together this Weekend

Tomorrow is Serve Saturday and the November mission focus is Winter Warmth. Thank you to everyone who signed up to serve. You can also consider donating your new or gently used coats, hats, and gloves at our drop off tomorrow, November 21, from 9–11 am. These items will be given to families who visit the Resurrection Overland Park Food Pantry. We are asking specifically for children's sizes, but we will also accept and distribute adult sizes.

JOY in Serving is another opportunity to bless others during the holiday season with uncommon generosity. This month, we are providing Thanksgiving meals to individuals and families and supplemental holiday groceries to several local partner agencies, including the Food Pantry at Resurrection Overland Park. A $10 donation provides a meal for an individual; $50 feeds a family this Thanksgiving. See how to Joyfully Offer Yourself in Serving here.

In closing, I want to celebrate with you that we welcomed 15 new members, adults and children, to Resurrection Overland Park last weekend at Coffee with the Pastors. Many others joined across all campuses. I'd love for you to pray for them.

Alright, I'm going to get back to unpacking boxes. I am grateful for you, Resurrection Overland Park. Thank you for sharing the light of Christ during this season of life we find ourselves in!

In Christ,

Joshua
