A Beautiful Moment to Pray

Hi Resurrection Overland Park,

I awoke this morning to the falling snow and immediately put my shoes on for a run while it was still dark. It was a bit windy, but I love running in the snow and then returning home for a warm cup of coffee.

Despite the day-to-day challenges and stressors we all experience and the conflict in our world today, I find these moments helpful in reconnecting with God and aligning my life with his purpose.

As I write this note to you I am taking a moment to pause and pray for you. I'd invite you to find a moment today to pause, stop for a brief moment, and pray for friends and family, our church and community, as well as our nation and world.

This Weekend in Worship

We'll continue in our sermon series on A Thinking Person's Guide to Faith. Pastor Adam will share a message called "Making Sense of the Bible" as we focus on the Bible, its contradictions and challenges, and how we can look to the scriptures for inspiration, hope, and meaningful living.

Join us Saturday (5 pm) or Sunday (7:30 am, 9:15 am, 11 am, or 5 pm) at cor.org/live or on Channel 38 "The Spot" at 8 am or 11 am. Consider inviting a friend, especially if they wrestle with the Bible or questions of faith.

I'm looking forward to seeing you as part of our worship together.

Martin Luther King Jr. Serve Weekend

Take a "day on" with us! More than 500 people have already signed up to serve and make a difference in our community on Saturday, January 16, and Monday, January 18, in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. There are a few in-person spots left, plus many ways to serve from home and racial justice educational opportunities.

Visit cor.org/mlk to sign up for opportunities to learn together, serve with one another, and set the tone for a new year. I am looking forward to serving with you and others as we reflect the light of Christ.

Third Grade Bible Presentation

Sunday, January 31 at 1 pm via Zoom, your student has the opportunity to receive their third grade Bible.

This is a special moment and tradition for students who receive their own Bible. I remember how meaningful it was when I received a Bible when I was young. We plan to deliver Bibles to your home before the online gathering. Pastor Adam will share a message, I'll have an opportunity to talk with our students, and we'll explore our Bibles together.

But be sure to register before January 19 to ensure we can get the Bible to your student in time. Register here!

Join a Small Group!

What is a Small Group? If you aren’t familiar with this concept, small groups are made up of about 8-14 people who choose to grow in faith, study, and serve together. Small groups are a wonderful way to connect and grow spiritually with others in similar life stages or experiences.

We provide easy on- and off-ramps for people in small groups – some groups will meet for the next four months, and some groups will decide to continue gathering together for years! New groups are forming now for different age groups and life stages, including groups for navigating life after the death of a spouse, divorce recovery, parenting little ones, and every stage in between.

If you are looking for a place to belong, enrollment is OPEN now! Sign up to join by clicking here or contact suzy.ayres@cor.org.

And whether you are joining a small group or are already in an existing one, we are planning a Winter '21 Small Group Kick-Off on Wednesday, January 27, via Zoom! We'll provide more information when you enroll.

January Class: A Thinking Person's Guide to Faith

You can still join me on Zoom for discussion and conversation related to the sermon series – it's on Thursdays in January, 7–8:15 pm. We'll talk more in-depth on topics presented in the sermon series, explore our questions of faith and doubt, science and reason, life and purpose.

Each week we send out the Zoom link on Thursday morning. Register here!

Become a Member of Resurrection at Coffee with the Pastors

Thinking of joining the church or want to know more about the church? Take the first step and sign up now for our next virtual Coffee with the Pastors on Sunday, January 31, at 2 pm.

Learn more about the history of Resurrection, hear from Senior Pastor Adam Hamilton on the beliefs and traditions of the United Methodist Church, and get to know the church a bit better. You will also connect with fellow Resurrection worshipers and hear about opportunities to serve, connect, and grow!

One last thing! We thought you might enjoy an update on the area students who are attending school at our church through the Y. This is one way we are partnering with our community to provide support to others during the pandemic. Here is a video.

In Christ,

Joshua
