Our Story

To Know, Love and Serve God

Welcome to the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection. We hope you’ll take a minute to explore all the ministries and opportunities we offer and plan to visit one of our campuses in Leawood, Olathe, Downtown Kansas City, Blue Springs or Overland Park this weekend or join us for worship online.

In 1990 Resurrection was a small church with a big dream of becoming a church that welcomes thinking people who were not actively involved in a church. We have been on an amazing journey with thousands of people finding greater hope, purpose and meaning in their lives here. And, they’ve found that a church like this can quickly become a great place for personal connections and relationships that will last a lifetime.

The life of our church is guided by three statements:

  • Our Purpose is to build a Christian community where non-religious and nominally religious people are becoming deeply committed Christians.
  • Our Vision is to be used by God to change lives, strengthen churches, and transform the world.
  • Our Journey is to know, love and serve God.

Come dream with us as we continue our journey of knowing, loving and serving God in the greater Kansas City community and the world.

Vision 2030: Closing the Gap

When Jesus spoke of the Kingdom of God, he was speaking of the world as it should be. The driving passion of Church of the Resurrection's Vision 2030 is to close the gap between what is and what should be in our lives, our community and our world between now and the year 2030.

Resurrection Leawood

God has blessed and used Church of the Resurrection to change lives, transform communities and renew the church since 1990. We believe this is just the beginning, and we are committed to building for our future. In 2015, we broke ground for construction of a permanent 3,500 seat sanctuary, opened in 2017.

We believe buildings are tools for ministry and create an opportunity for more people to gather together, meet God, find meaning and make a positive impact on our community. Learn more about our sanctuary on our Sacred Spaces website.

God’s strategy for changing the world happens one person at a time as each of us comes to know and follow him and receive his saving grace through Jesus Christ. We are called to represent Christ to others by sharing our faith, inviting others and telling our stories of how God has worked within us.
