There are many ways for you to get involved right here in the Kansas City community. Some that are as simple as just showing up and others that are long-term partnerships in the area. Find your place below!

If you're looking for serving opportunities to arrange on your own, below is an informal list of organizations we enjoy working with here in Kansas City. Please feel free to reach out to any of the organizations that interest you or your group!

Clothing and Hygiene

Adelante Thrift - Adelante Thrift has a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for people of all ages, ranging from sorting, pricing and stocking merchandise to assisting customers, arranging department displays, and more!

Avenue of Life - Assist with sorting clothing and hygiene products serve a meal, or participate in clean-up projects at Avenue of Life or throughout the surrounding neighborhood.

Blessings Abound Thrift Store - Help sort and display merchandise at this Overland Park thrift store.

Cross-Lines Community Outreach - Volunteer your time at the community kitchen, food pantry, thrift store, community garden, or performing administrative tasks.  Volunteer opportunities are available Monday - Friday.

Happy Bottoms - Volunteer at Kansas City's diaper bank, helping families in need gain access to a vital resource.

Hope Faith Ministries - Volunteer your time to partner with Hope Faith in serving the homeless and poor in Kansas City.  Opportunities include serving a meal, working in the clothing shop, teaching clients to sew, gardening, teaching and much more.

Lazarus Ministries - Lazarus Table provides sustenance to men, women and children in need.  Volunteers are needed to assist in preparing, serving and cleaning up these weekend meals, or to work in the Boutique on Saturdays.

St. Michael’s Veterans Center - St. Michael’s Veteran’s Center is dedicated to empowering veterans through a variety of services and programs.  Volunteers at St. Michael’s can work in the food pantry or dignity closet, or assist with special events.

Village Presbyterian Food Pantry and Clothes Closet - Volunteers assist in working with clients, sorting and stocking groceries, or sorting clothes.

Domestic Violence

Rose Brooks Center - Program volunteers have direct contact with the individuals and families of Rose Brooks Center on an ongoing basis.  Non-program short term projects are also available, including working in the holiday store, special event support, kitchen support or other special projects

Safehome - Safehome provides a healing atmosphere where survivors of domestic violence can gain inner strength, build self-esteem, explore options, and establish a life free of violence. Volunteers can participate in special projects, preparing a meal for residents, serving as a court advocate for clients, providing activities for children, or adopting a room.

Education & Children

Center of Grace Ministries - Volunteer in a variety of ways with the mission outreach campus of Grace UMC in Olathe.  Volunteers can participate in health screenings, teaching English, volunteering with children, or serving a community meal.

Della Lamb Community Services - A wide variety of volunteer opportunities are available, including: reading to and tutoring of  children and teaching ESL classes for adults; assisting with youth service activities; helping organize Operation Thanksgiving and Operation Santa events; or preparing housing for newly arriving refugees.

Grace United Community Ministries- Assist with after school tutoring or serve a meal on a Saturday. Serving a meal is a great opportunity for family, neighbor, church or civic groups.

Mission Adelante - Work with immigrants to learn the English language.  An ESL teacher will lead the class, but volunteers are needed to help the adult students practice what they’ve been taught.

The Reading Nook - Volunteers tutor refugee children in Kansas City in different learning mediums of books, computer, and games.

The Urban Scholastic Center (USC) -  Volunteers can support the mission of this non-profit Christian ministry located in the heart of urban Kansas City, Kansas in a variety of ways including tutoring, volunteering with their summer program, serving a weekly meal, participating in a Bible study and much more.

Health

Heart To Heart International – Heart to Heart International strengthens communities through improving health access, providing humanitarian development and administering crisis relief worldwide.  Volunteers are needed to work in the office or volunteer at the Operations Hub receiving, packaging and shipping medicine, supplies, hygiene kits and Ready Relief Boxes around the world!

Homelessness

Kansas City Rescue Mission – Kansas City Rescue Mission is a Christ-centered community offering freedom and hope to the poor and homeless, empowering them to reach their full potential. A variety of opportunities are available, including serving meals to clients.

Uplift- Uplift's goal is to deliver the basic human needs, care and compassion to homeless individuals.  Volunteers can cook meals, work in our warehouse or ride the trucks and deliver to the homeless.  Opportunities are available on Mondays, Wednesday and Saturdays.

Hunger & Community Meals

After the Harvest - After the Harvest rescues nutritious fruits and vegetables from going to waste and donates them to agencies that serve hungry people, primarily in Greater Kansas City. Volunteers glean after the harvest, picking what’s left in farmers’ fields and picking up already harvested leftover produce.

First Baptist Church Stillwell Caring Ministry - The Caring Ministry at First Baptist Church in Stillwell cares for the food needs of those in and around their community.  Volunteers can assist with distribution of food on Tuesday afternoon or Thursday evenings.

Giving Grove - The Giving Grove provides community orchards that are full of nutritious fruits and nuts for neighborhoods in need. These orchards are championed and maintained by individuals in their community, who are empowered to care for the trees.  Volunteers are needed in a variety of roles.

Grace United Community Ministries- Assist with after school tutoring or serve a meal on a Saturday. Serving a meal is a great opportunity for family, neighbor, church or civic groups.

Harvesters - Harvesters is a regional food bank serving a 26-county area of northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas. Volunteers assist with  sorting food, staffing special events or providing professional service in the office.

Johnson County Human Services - Johnson County Human Services offers long-term volunteer opportunities for those interested in making a deeper commitment.  Opportunities include Meals on Wheels, Catch-A-Ride, food pantry support and administrative tasks.

New Hope Food Pantry - Help New Hope Food Pantry provide emergency food assistance in Johnson and Miami counties.  Volunteer to assist with loading and driving food, stocking the pantry and receiving clients. Volunteer hours are available seven days a week.

Ronald McDonald House Charities - Kansas City - Volunteer groups are needed to prepare and serve meals at multiple RMHC locations in Kansas City. Help remove some of the stress for parents with sick children by keeping their kitchens full and their families well cared for.

Sante Fe Waystation - Volunteer with this food pantry, located at St. Mark's UMC in Overland Park. Opportunities are available on Mondays and occasionally throughout the week.

Jewish Vocational Services – Jewish Vocational Services assists individuals and families in achieving self-reliance by providing support, personal development, employment and training services.  Volunteers can work with clients in the skills training program, work in the Global Gardens project, provide support for the warehouse, or give rides to refugees to help them access needed services around Kansas City.
