Dear Resurrection Family,

I’m looking forward to this weekend as we celebrate Mother’s Day. The kids and I are taking LaVon to the K for a Royals game after Sunday morning worship to celebrate Mother’s Day as a family, then dinner after evening worship with my mom.

As we continue our series of sermons, This is Us: Building Strong and Beautiful Families, we’ll focus this weekend on moms and “The Care and Nurture of Moms.” We’ll look at the top five things Resurrection members reported they appreciated most about what their mothers did for them growing up. We’ll also look at the top five things moms at Resurrection want from their children (this includes moms of little ones, teens, young adults and moms in their 70’s and 80’s talking about what they want from their adult children). Then, we’ll look at what Scripture teaches that speaks to the relationship between children and their mothers.

Before and after worship, our Building Better Moms groups will be offering a photobooth for pictures with your mom, and we’ll have white carnations (a tradition that goes back to the beginning of Mother’s Day) for moms, grandmothers, and any other significant woman in your life.

266 Adults and Children Joined Resurrection Last Weekend

Last Sunday, 266 adults and children (190 adults and 76 children) joined Church of the Resurrection at our various campuses. They professed their faith in Christ and made this their church family. 188 of those joined at Leawood, 43 at Resurrection West, 29 at Resurrection Downtown and 6 at Resurrection Blue Springs. Welcome to all of our new members!

First Gathering for Resurrection Overland Park

Last Sunday night we had the first evening gathering at Resurrection Overland Park, our new campus that will be located at 95th and Antioch. Over 200 people came as Pastor Joshua Clough, our campus pastor there, led the gathering. Over the next four months we’ll hold Sunday evening gatherings most weeks to begin planning and laying the groundwork for the official launch of Resurrection Overland Park in August.

I also want to welcome several adult Sunday School classes from Valley View UMC (which held their last weekend of worship two weeks ago and will become Resurrection Overland Park) to the Leawood campus on Sunday mornings until the launch this fall. It’s great to have you in worship on Sundays and here on site! This is an exciting time as we look ahead to the launch of this new campus. Here are a couple of photos of last Sunday night’s gathering:

Searching for D-Day Vets to Share Their Stories

As the 75th anniversary of D-Day approaches we’re looking for vets who were there for D-Day who might be willing to be interviewed to share their stories. If you know someone living in Kansas City who we might interview, please let me know by emailing Sandy Thailing.

Have You Invited Someone to Vacation Bible Camp Yet?

This year we’re making an intentional effort to open additional spaces at VBC so that your kids can invite their friends, you can invite other children you know, as we pick up the Toy Story theme: You’ve Got a Friend in Me. Our hope is that you’ll reach out to families who are not actively involved in another church, and that VBC will be an opportunity for children and their families to learn about the friend we have in Jesus, and to experience the kind of friendship Jesus calls us to share with each other.

June will be an awesome month as our entire church focuses on this theme. We’ll be showing each of the Toy Story films for family movie night and we’re planning a Resurrection Night at the Movies to see Toy Story 4 when it comes out. Here’s the link to sign-up for VBC.

Finally, next weekend (May 18/19) we’ll be celebrating graduates in worship, and I’ll be preaching on “Building Strong and Beautiful Marriages” with advice for young adults and graduates who think they may marry in the years ahead – as well as words from Scripture that help marriages last.

Looking forward to being with you in worship this weekend!
