Prayer Tip: The First Key: A Clear MVP
Daily Scripture
Genesis 2:15-22
The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, “You may freely eat of every tree of the garden; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die.” Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.” So out of the ground the LORD God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the air, and to every animal of the field; but for the man there was not found a helper as his partner. So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then he took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man.

A little over three years ago, I made a promise to the one I would spend the rest of my life with. It was the best decision I’ve ever made. That being said, I am reminded daily of the work that goes into marriage. The journey is somewhat like an emotional roller coaster. There are days where Samara and I feel like we are on top of the world. But marriage also has its challenges. There are times where both of us are just doing the hard work of loving.
I am reminded that the goal of marriage is not that we will like each other all the time—that’s emotionally impossible. Marriage is committing to love one another, to serve one another, to empower one another. To put the other first. It’s work, but it’s beautiful work.
Loving God, your greatest command was to love you and love each other. You’ve given the gift of marriage as a holy relationship that reflects our relationship with you. Show us how to follow your example, set aside our selfishness and pride and humbly serve each other. Help us to be of one spirit and one mind and value each other above ourselves, looking out for each other’s interests.
In the midst of our busy lives, help us to take time to love each other deeply, as you have loved us. May the love we have for each other be an example to the world of how you love them and gave your life for them.
