Daily Scripture

John 15:12-16

“This is my commandment: love each other just as I have loved you. No one has greater love than to give up one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I don’t call you servants any longer, because servants don’t know what their master is doing. Instead, I call you friends, because everything I heard from my Father I have made known to you. You didn’t choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you could go and produce fruit and so that your fruit could last.”

Prayer Tip

We all need coaches and advisors to accomplish our goals. Whether it is an athletic coach, financial coach, job coach or a weight loss coach they can guide us on our journey towards hitting our target. Coaches are a natural part of our lives when we are young. We have reading specialists, math tutors and sports coaches showing us how to reach the next level.

Just as much guidance is needed in our spiritual life. It starts with our Sunday school teachers, and then we pass on to our youth leaders. As adults, some of us stop seeking coaching for growth spiritually and we find ourselves feeling lost, stagnant and uninspired.

If we are looking to reach our goal of being fully the person we were called to be we are going to have to seek wise counsel. The way to do this is to surround yourself with others who are pursuing the same goal. Small groups and classes are a great way to start.

You could also ask to meet with one of our Congregational Care pastors and request book suggestions. Then you could schedule a follow up meeting to discuss what you learned. If you know someone who is further along in your faith than you are, you could ask them to mentor you. I find encouragement in Matthew 7:7, which says, “Ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you.” If you go searching for more knowledge and to grow in your faith you will find what you are looking for. Start knocking.

Dear Lord,

We know you have created us to do great things. Please guide us as we seek to follow your plan for our lives. Help us to connect with coaches and teachers who can coach us on our spiritual journey. Help us to find you.
