What a Way to Ring in the New Year

Greetings RezDowntowners,

Happy New Year!!! I hope the first week of 2019 has been one full of great thanksgiving. I've had the privilege of starting the year off by taking a few days of vacation with my family after what was an absolutely amazing Christmas season. Wendy, Freddy and I have been trying to be tourists in our own town, and we've had quite a time exploring our city to ring in the new year! That said, after a few days off, we are looking forward to experiencing our first worship weekend of the new year as a family. Not only is a good way to start the year off right, but this weekend in worship is going to be a particularly great one!

This year, to go along with all the excitement in the air revolving around the Chiefs and the NFL playoff season, we start a new sermon series this weekend called Lessons from Football for the Game of Life. You can check out a promo for the sermon series on our Facebook page and share it with others!  We are hoping for larger than normal crowds, so if you are able to join us on Saturday or Sunday evening, that would greatly help us to create some space on Sunday morning for first time visitors. This weekend we'll focus on "No pain, no gain" and the cost of winning. It will be a great way to start out the year!

Also this weekend, on Saturday afternoon, I'd love for you to join the RezDT 40s and Up group for coffee and fellowship at 3:30 pm at Messenger Coffee (1624 Grand Blvd., KCMO). This is a great way to connect with other RezDowntowners before worship, and then after some great coffee and conversation you can head to worship together for the 5:10 pm service that evening! Email Pastor Matt.Bisel@cor.org with any questions! We'd love to have you there.

Then for those of you looking to get better connected with others at Resurrection Downtown, our small groups are made up of individuals who meet regularly for connection and spiritual growth and are an important part of our church. Interested? Starting January 5, register for one of our winter/spring small groups at cor.org/downtown/getconnected. Groups will begin meeting Jan. 28! Email Pastor Matt.Bisel@cor.org with questions.

Also, Middle School and High School students will begin meeting at 3 pm at 1522 McGee for rezlife on Sundays, starting Sunday, Jan. 6. All Middle School and High School students are welcome. We plan to have worship, large group and small group time, and of course, snacks! Make sure to bring friends as we grow this youth group. Don’t forget, confirmation class will start in February! Contact Sarah.Elliott@cor.org with questions.

I hope you have a great Friday and I can't wait to see you this weekend in worship! Go Chiefs!

With Grace, Peace and God's Holy Adventure,

Scott
