I was standing outside church on a Sunday morning a few weeks ago and as I saw one person in particular, my jaw dropped open. I couldn’t believe I was seeing him. Just a few days before he had undergone open heart surgery, spent several days in ICU and here he was walking into worship. Why?! He told me, “I made it my goal to be here today. I wanted to be in worship so I slept 14 hours yesterday and I will sleep 14 more when I get home, but I wanted to be in church.”

His story is a great representation of what I see in each of you and why I love this community. We don’t wait to worship God until life is tidy and neat. We come, as we are, bringing our mess and lay it at the foot of the cross. No one here is pretending we have it all together, instead we are on a journey, desperately calling out to God to meet us, trusting in the promise that He loves us exactly how we are.

I hope that longing for the healing that Christ brings will guide you throughout Advent as you look at upcoming events to participate in and make your plans for the next month!
