Greetings RezDowntowners,

I am so looking forward to this weekend, not only because we will be gathering onsite tomorrow for our 30 for 30 Hunger drive (please feel free to stop by tomorrow morning between 9 am and 11 am to drop off your food), but we'll also be hosting our October Serve Saturday including an onsite build project with our Helping Hands Construction Team alongside Habitat. It is going to be a great day for practicing loving kindness!

However, I'm also looking forward to this weekend as we'll be adding back KiDSCOR programming to our in-person weekend worship experience. For more information as to how you can participate in all three of these things (serve, worship and KidsCOR) please read below for details about sign-ups and registration.

This weekend will also be an historic weekend in worship as we'll hear from guest preacher Presiding Bishop Michael Curry on what it means to #LoveYourNeighbor when it comes to racial justice. Not only is Bishop Curry the first African American to serve as the presiding bishop of The Episcopal Church, he also authored the book Love is the Way and you may remember him as being the Officiant at the 2018 royal wedding. You won't want to miss the opportunity to hear him speak!

To join us, please feel free to invite friends and join us at cor.org/live starting on Saturday evening at 5 pm or on Sunday at 7:30 am, 9:15, 11 or 5 pm. You can also find our worship on TV at 8 am and 11 am on local Kansas City channel 38 the Spot (KMCI).

For those of you who are comfortable joining us in person I want you to know that we still have a few spaces available for both services , 9 am and 11 am. Please register here if you would like to be a part of our in-person worship at 1601 Grand.

Also, this weekend, we are thrilled to be opening up in-person KiDSCOR programming! Our team has worked to develop a great safety protocol to be able to include our children in the weekend experience. That said, we are asking you to please register your family so we can account for available space and staff. At our 9 am service, we'll offer care for infants - 3yrs. At our 11 am service, we'll offer full KiDSCOR for infants - 5th grade. I know Sarah and her staff are looking forward to seeing some of your bright and smiling faces in person, and so am I!

Trunk or Treat

Also, we are so excited to be gearing up for a Resurrection Downtown (socially distanced) Trunk or Treat and we need your help! Join us outdoors Halloween morning, Oct. 31 for candy, spooky trunks, a photo booth, and airbrush tattoos for kiddos between 10 – 11 am at 1601 Grand!

Please register your family for this fun event here! It will be a great way to kick-off a full-day of costumes, candy and fun.

Here's where we need some help. Are you willing to decorate your trunk and enter into our contest for a this year's first ever grand prize for most creative trunk!? We are hoping to have a collection of spooky, silly, themed trunks for our kiddos to walk past and vote on as a part of the Halloween fun. If you are up for the challenge, please contact Sarah.Elliott@cor.org.

Covid precautions will be in place: masks will be required for all age two and over, families will be expected to social distance, and candy will be safely given out at designated stations throughout the parking lot. Register your family for this fun event here!

Upcoming Service Opportunities - This Weekend

Let's come together to help fight hunger in the KC metro! Pastor Adam challenged us to give $30 or donate 30 pounds of food to our 30 for 30 Food Drive.

Our second and final drop-off event for Resurrection Downtown will be TOMORROW, Saturday Oct. 17, from 9 am – 11 am at 1522 McGee. Visit cor.org/next for a list of requested food items or to donate. Contact Pastor Patrick.McLaughlin@cor.org with any questions!

Visit cor.org/downtown/localimpact to check out the serve opportunities for Serve Saturday TOMORROW! We'll have a group in the parking lot at 1601 Grand to help build walls for a home in our partner school neighborhood with Habitat for Humanity’s Interfaith House of Abraham program. At the same time, you can drop off your 30 for 30 Food Drive donations, or volunteer to unload those donations from cars.

Lastly, we’ll have a family-friendly serve opportunity at the KC Farm School at Gibbs Rd.
