Dear Resurrection Family,
I have a number of important and exciting things to share with you in today’s eNote.
This weekend we’ll continue in our series of sermons focused on some of the most loved stories in the gospels based on the scriptures Resurrection’s children will be focusing on in Vacation Bible Camp this summer. This weekend we’ll turn to a moment when Jesus healed ten lepers, after which only one of them returned to thank Jesus. We’ll see what we learn about lepers, about Jesus, and about gratitude.
Gratitude is the basic rhythm of the Christian spiritual life. It is the primary impulse of worship. It is essential to a happy marriage. It is key to a successful career. I’m excited to be sharing this message this weekend – invite a friend, I guarantee you it will speak to them and they’ll be glad you invited them.
Last weekend Resurrection Downtown opened the doors of the new building at 1601 Grand Blvd., and 1,640 people attended – it was full and, in some services, overflowing! Very exciting.
I’ll be preaching from Resurrection Downtown this weekend with the sermon coming via video from there to all the campuses. We’ll begin the message with a 90-second tour of the new building.
If you usually attend Leawood, West or Blue Springs and are thinking about worshiping downtown to see the new buildings, I’d encourage you to wait a couple more weeks to visit – but please tell your friends who live Downtown, in Midtown or in North Kansas City to visit. We want to make room these first few weeks for Resurrection Downtown attendees and new visitors. If you do attend this weekend, please come Saturday or Sunday night.
Last weekend at Resurrection Leawood we dedicated our new fellowship hall, The Foundry, (the former Sanctuary in Building B). It was a very exciting weekend! The new Sunday School classes have moved into their spaces, the Spring Café is open, and this weekend The Well Bookstore will open in their new space.

This summer we have over 20 mission teams serving across the US and around the world. These include family mission trips, youth trips and adult trips.
I’m so proud of each of you serving in mission. Leawood’s adult choir and orchestra and youth choir both just returned from their respective mission trips. We have a team returning from Honduras this weekend (to learn more about their trip, take a look at their blog here). Another team just returned from Haiti last week. A team leaves for Honduras today. In addition, we have teams going to Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Puerto Rico, New York City, South Africa, another team to Haiti, Malawi, Omaha, Costa Rica, Columbus, Denver and another to Puerto Rico!
Please keep them all in your prayers, along with our partners and those that they are serving. We have two upcoming serve trips that still have openings:
In March I spoke in five cities on my book, Unafraid: Living with Courage and Hope in Uncertain Times. On Tuesday, June 19, I’ll offer that same talk at Resurrection Leawood at a special Grow Night presentation. The event begins at 6:30 pm.
Fear, anxiety, and worry permeate our lives today. Fear can wreak havoc on our relationships and communities. It leads us into making bad decisions. And, it holds us back from the very pursuits that promise fulfillment and joy. Join me as we look at the research, real-life examples and biblical insights for inspiration and practical solutions. Bring a friend. Childcare is available with registration online.
It's going to be an awesome summer at Resurrection! I hope to see you at the movies tonight, and for an awesome weekend in worship as we focus on Jesus, the grateful leper, and the power of gratitude!
