What a crazy week!! I want to begin by sharing how amazing the past few days have been. Over the past several weeks, our staff team had been planning and preparing for how we can be the living body of Christ in the middle of a giant community-wide event that was happening all around us.
Once the Chiefs won the Super Bowl, we realized it was time to go to work. We secured bleachers for nearly 600 people, we worked with Danny O'Neill and The Roasterie to generously give away 5,000 cups of coffee.(Why 5000? It seemed biblical!) We secured 2,500 footballs to hand out to the kids in the crowd and we worked with the KCPD and other emergency personnel to become a warming station for officers and a reunification site for lost children. On top of that, we had news crews on our rooftop shooting live video of the whole event – only to find that, with every live shot, they would mention the name of our church.
It was a huge day, full of lots of energy, excitement and love. Since the parade, we have received some of the nicest notes from people who were grateful for their experience of the parade, largely on account of our hospitality. With that, I want simply to say "Thank you" to our amazing Resurrection Downtown staff team as well to those of you who served by representing our church in the community that day! If you weren't a part of the Super Bowl Celebration Parade on Wednesday, I wanted to share a few photos from our experience. Thanks again.
As we shift gears from the work week to another weekend, I am excited to preach live again a message on the power of serving. This will be the second sermon in this series on An Irresistible Power: The Magnetic Life and Love of Jesus. I'll share more stories from members of our community for whom serving has become an irresistible component of their faith. I hope you'll join me as we take a look at the extraordinary power of service!
Ladies, after what will be an amazing weekend at the Inspired for Life Women's Conference this weekend, I want to urge you to join Shannon Endicott starting Thursday, Feb. 13 for a 2-week discussion-based class on the book The Ultimate Exodus by Danielle Strickland. Danielle is a spiritual leader, justice advocate and communicator who inspires people to live differently. She is also a featured speaker at the Inspired For Life Women’s Conference, taking place tonight and tomorrow.
The class will read excerpts from the book, but the book is NOT required for the class. You can find more information and register for the class HERE. If you have any questions, please email Shannon.Endicott@cor.org.
Are you looking for an easy way to meet new people and serve the KC community for a few hours? Then I want to encourage you to invite family, friends, and colleagues to join you at Resurrection Downtown for Serve Saturday, on Feb. 15 at 9 am! Learn more about the serve sites ahead of time at our sign up page or just meet at our 1522 McGee location to choose a serve site. Signing up isn’t required but it does help us better prepare the experience for you and our partners.
Come a little early for light refreshments and don’t forget to invite someone, especially those who might not otherwise come to church! Email Pastor Patrick.McLaughlin@cor.org with questions or if you plan to bring a group of 5 or more.
I'm excited to see you in worship this weekend and even more excited that we will return to our regular weekend worship schedule without interruption. It's a new month and a perfect time to look at our call to live a life of service as a way of reflecting the irresistible love of Jesus to the world.
