Our Walk Together Through Lent Has Begun

Greetings RezDowntowners,

I hope this first Friday in the season of Lent is off to a great start for you. I don't know about you, but looking outside and seeing the sunshine was a welcome way to start out the day! If you're in Kansas City (or pretty much anywhere in the United States), I'm willing to bet you are looking forward to the warm-up coming our way.

Despite the frigid temps this past week, we had a great kick-off to Lent with our Outdoor Ash Wednesday Experience. We were so grateful to see many of you as you participated with scripture and prayer in your car, and then dropped your confessions in a burn barrel and came up for the imposition of ashes. We love any chance we have to connect with you in person right now.

As we enter this season of self-reflection, repentance and recommitting ourselves to actively following Christ, Pastor Adam and I have two Lenten challenges for us.

  1. To be in worship each weekend of Lent – the six weekends leading up to Easter, and
  2. To read the Gospel of Mark during Lent – he'll be preaching through Mark, the earliest (and most concise!) of our four Gospels.

My Thursday night men's class has been reading through Mark since the beginning of the year and we'd love to have you join us as well. Please visit cor.org/next and click on the Resurrection Downtown option at the bottom of the page for more information.

Featured Class: The Gospel of Mark

Another way to get engaged with the Gospel of Mark is through our Wednesday night study. If you are not already part of a small group studying Mark right now, I want to encourage you to join Resurrection’s pastors online on Wednesday nights to journey through the Gospel of Mark with a large group of people from across all campuses.

Each week one of our pastors will offer a 30-minute teaching, followed by about 30 minutes of live, interactive conversation via Zoom.

Visit cor.org/next for more info and to request the Zoom link! This will be a great opportunity.

Lent Journals and Family Experience Kits

As a part of this year's Lenten journey, we have some amazing journals available for you at no cost. If you weren't able to make it to our Outdoor Ash Wednesday Experience to pick one up (either our Lenten journal or one of our Family Experience Kits) please know you can come by our offices (1522 McGee St., KCMO) Monday - Thursday, 9 am - 4 pm to pick those up. You can also download a digital copy from cor.org/connect as well.

This Weekend in Worship

Pastor Adam will kick off our Lenten series with a message entitled "Just the Beginning..." as part of our new sermon series, Walk with Jesus Through the Gospel of Mark.

Please tune in at cor.org/live starting at 5 pm on Saturday or at 7:30 am, 9:15 am, 11 am or 5 pm on Sunday, or on our YouTube channel, on-demand all day Sunday. If you’re in the Kansas City area, you can also catch worship on local television channel KMCI 38 the Spot at 8 am or 11 am.

New Release from COR Worship Collective

Another part of our Lenten journey has to do with our modern music and worship collective. If you haven't already seen the newest music video from COR Worship Collective, I highly encourage you to start your day with it today.

Find a quick interview with the songwriters and the new music video for "I Am Yours (Wesley Covenant Prayer)" on our Facebook. Stay tuned for a new music video each week on Thursdays throughout Lent and the "official" release on Fridays through Spotify, or wherever you stream music.

I've shared the "official release" on my Facebook page already and hope you'll do the same as a way of inviting people into an encounter with God through music!

I'm grateful for our amazing musicians and for each one of you. I hope you'll join us as we journey toward spring and Easter together. Tomorrow morning we have several opportunities to serve in the community across the metro as a part of our Serve Saturday activities. I hope to see you there (we still have several openings available, so it's not too late to sign up!), and then again in worship on Saturday and Sunday. Have a great weekend!

With Grace, Peace and God's Holy Adventure,

Scott
