Thank you for taking a few minutes to see what is going on in the serve life of RezDT! The service opportunities below, along with RezDT community life and worship are how we make a positive impact in people's lives. With your full participation, we are #withKC! Find ways to do all these at the RezDT website.  Contact me anytime for further connection and care, 816-979-1334 or

Serve Saturday Goals

As we approach 2019, I want to introduce 3 goals for Serve Saturday that make it easy for you to talk about it when inviting others to join you.  After much listening and observation, please consider these. If you have questions about them, please let me know.

  1. Welcome 200 new participants through personal invitation.
  2. Participants sign up to help at one of our partner agencies at least 1 more time on their own, with their family, or with a small group.
  3. Cultivate 6 stories of service that compel others to serve and that can be shared with the broader community.

A few opportunities remain to participate in the JOY in serving season. Find those here: Downtown JOY website.

One special opportunity I'll highlight that everyone has always enjoyed is the Wendell Phillips JOY parties. On Dec. 21 from 1:30-3:45p, help students decorate cookies, assemble a craft, and receive a JOY box.  Sign up here.

Mission Training Events

January 12, 2019
Resurrection Downton, 1522 McGee KCMO 64108

10:30a - 12:30p Cultural Context Training
12-1p Lunch provided-$5 suggested donation
2:00p - 4:30p Cost Of Poverty Experience (C.O.P.E.)

Please consider joining us in one or both of these events because we get better together! Whether you've attended before or not, your experiences, questions, and take aways will add value to our serve community.  The Cultural Context training is required for all who desire to be regular partner school volunteers and it is encouraged for everyone who serves downtown.

The C.O.P.E. poverty simulation is a new offering from Resurrection.  It stands for Cost Of Poverty Experience and helps participants better understand the challenges people face while living in poverty.  With this understanding, we hope to compel participants to make deeper commitments to serve and advocate for dismantling community barriers that keep people stuck in poverty.

Please click here to sign up for one or both of these events and let us know of your childcare needs.

Ordinary Saints

Meaningful impact in the community grows because of the stories people tell. Participants in making that impact and those that spread the word are "Ordinary Saints". We'd like to record these stories to create a catalog that demonstrates the impact RezDT is making on the community and in people's lives. For more information on sharing a story, contact

TEXT "DEEP" to 816-256-5588 to let us track and celebrate it with you!

Are you passionate about a service opportunity you've been doing outside of RezDT and wish you had more help? I'd love to help bring more volunteers along side you.

FOR 18 in '18

18-in-18.jpg.png?mtime=20180815132554#asset:19097:serveModalImageHelp us celebrate the goal we set for each person calling RezDT their home, serving 18 hours in 2018, by turning in your serve card.  You can return it or fill out a new one at Serve Saturday or at the info desk at church.

Volunteer of the month

This month I'd like to honor the work and gifts of Don Dunning.  Don can be found volunteering in many capacities.  He is active with our Helping Hands construction ministry, serves with our worship teams to offer hospitality to members and guests, has travelled to Puerto Rico on several occasions this year to establish a Fall 2019 RezDT trip, and perhaps most notable, Don decided to move downtown to be closer to the life and ministry of the church.  He can literally see the church from the view of his new home.  Thank you Don for making RezDT such a big part of your life, you certainly make life better for all who call RezDT their home.

Hope to see you Saturday!

I also hope you've enjoyed getting to know what's going on in the Serve life of RezDT!  Don't hesitate to reach out anytime you have questions, concerns, or just need a listening ear. Email or call 816-979-1344.
