Thank you for taking a few minutes to see what is going on in the serve life of RezDT! The service opportunities below, along with RezDT community life and worship are how we make a positive impact in people's lives. With your full participation, we are #withKC! Find ways to do all these at the RezDT website.  Contact me anytime for further connection and care, 816-979-1334 or

Its as simple as ABC, Do Re Mi...

  1. Invite a friend and join us this Saturday at 1522 McGee. Doors open at 8:30am for morning refreshments.
  2. A brief program starts at 9am to learn about the day's ministry partners. Deploy by 9:20am to serve the community for a few hours.
  3. Have lunch with other volunteers if you are able and when you're ready, commit to serving at one of our locations on your own, with a friend, or with a small group.

That's how easy love can be!

This month's opportunities:

  • Monthly regular:
    • Hunger Backpacks--Accessible to all ages and abilities on site
    • Kuamba Reading Nook-- Join for an introduction to the ministry and to learn next steps on how to serve directly with refugee children.  Ongoing volunteers will need to complete the church's Safe Gatherings program.  Contact Susan Dye for more information.
    • Helping Hands Construction Ministry-Show up to see where they'll help this month. Contact Dan Smith or visit the Helping Hands Construction Ministry web site for more info on ways to stay involved.
  • Off Saturday Opportunities:
    • Micah Ministry--Weekly Evening Meal.
Contact our liaison Mary Landis for more details.
    • Opportunities to serve at Wendell Phillips and East High. Visit our Education partner webpage or for more details!
    • Desiring an opportunity to serve with Spanish speaking neighbors? Avenue of Life offers many throughout the week. Visit their website and contact for more info.

We don't visit every site every month. Click here for a list with web-links to all of the serve partners that we can help you connect with throughout the year.

Serve Saturday Goals

As we approach 2019, I want to introduce 3 clear goals for Serve Saturday that make it easy for you to talk about it when inviting others to join you.  After much listening and observation, please consider these. If you have questions about them, please let me know.

  1. RezDT's Community Pastor gives participants a small taste of a big difference they can make by coordinating a variety of accesible service projects with agency partners every 3rd Saturday.
  2. Liaisons coordinate projects and agency overviews so participants can see how to make big differences throughout the month and year.
  3. Participants grow God’s Kingdom, made evident in the RezDT community, by valuing relationships, stories, and invitations that are cultivated from serving together.

There are a lot  of ways to give a little extra this holiday season.  You can give gifts, be present through service, and donate financially to help people in our community and around the world. Find a whole list of these opportunities at the Downtown JOY website.

Two special opportunities I'll highlight that everyone has always enjoyed:

  • Wendell Phillips JOY parties. On Dec. 21 from 1:30-3:45p, help students decorate cookies, assemble a craft, and receive a JOY box.  Sign up here.
  • Need a place to eat on Thanksgiving?  The Healing House welcomes you to their potluck lunch.  Bring a side dish if you can, serve if you'd like, enjoy time together over a delicious Thanksgiving lunch!  No need to RSVP, just show up at 4602 St. John Ave in KCMO on Thanksgiving day, starting at 11a.

Everyday Saints

Meaningful impact in the community grows because of the stories people tell. Participants in making that impact and those that spread the word are "Everyday Saints". We'd like to record these stories to create a catalog that demonstrates the impact RezDT is making on the community and in people's lives. For more information on sharing a story, contact

Are you passionate about a service opportunity you've been doing outside of RezDT and wish you had more help? I'd love to help bring more volunteers along side you.

FOR 18 in '18

18-in-18.jpg.png?mtime=20180815132554#asset:19097:serveModalImageHelp us celebrate the goal we set for each person calling RezDT their home, serving 18 hours in 2018, by turning in your serve card.  You can return it or fill out a new one at Serve Saturday or at the info desk at church.

Volunteer of the month

This month I'd like to recognize Darin Challacombe for his continued commitment to serving and leading the RezDT community.  For as long as I've known him, Darin has been active in serving, growing, and equipping our community.  He serves as a Serve Saturday liaison for ReStart, he consistently serves and brings others to Serve Saturday, he has travelled internationally on a mission trip to Honduras, and finally, in the picture below you'll see his commitment to equipping others.
