It's More than Just a Toy Story

Greetings RezDowntowners,

I hope this message finds you doing well this Friday morning. I am excited for this weekend as we continue in our fun summer series, You've Got a Friend in Me. I don't know about you, but I didn't watch any of the Toy Story movies when they first came out, so it has been fun to watch these movies for the first time in anticipation of our worship weekends.

This weekend we'll be turning our focus to Toy Story 2 and the importance of remembering who and whose we are. In Revelation, Jesus shares how God has written God's name on our hearts and his own name as well. In baptism, God claims us as God's own. In the same way, Andy writes his name on all of his favorite toys, including Buzz and Woody, in Toy Story. This should shape our faith and how we live it out each and every day. I hope you'll join us in worship this weekend as we take a moment in every worship service to remember our baptism.

Also, if you are able, we are inviting people to bring in diapers for donation this weekend in worship! We’ll collect the diapers in the lobby at 1601 Grand and they’ll be packaged and sent to Happy Bottoms as part of our family-friendly Serve Saturday on June 15.

VBC Next Week!

There are only a few days left to register your family for Vacation Bible Camp at Resurrection Downtown! "You’ve Got A Friend In Me" is the theme for our VBC this year, June 11–13, 6–8 pm at 1601 Grand. Campers will explore the qualities of being a good friend and learn that Jesus is their best friend, with the help of the characters from Toy Story.

Register your child HERE! Or, sign up to help. If you have questions, please reach out to

Toy Story 4 Drive-In Movie

We have a limited number of pre-sale tickets available for Toy Story 4 at the Boulevard drive-in theater on June 23! The movie will begin at 9:20 pm. Cost is $20/vehicle for pre-sale, regardless of the number of people in the car, or General Admission is $10/person for ages 12 and up. REGISTER to secure one of the pre-sale tickets!

Getting Started at Resurrection Downtown

Are you looking to get better connected at Resurrection Downtown or looking for ways to take next steps in your life of faith? This Sunday we are hosting another Getting Started gathering at 1522 McGee following our 10:45 am service. There is no need to RSVP, but this is a great opportunity to learn more about our community and find some ideas for getting started at Resurrection Downtown!

Opportunity to Participate in Mayoral Debate

Lastly, the Democratic process does not bypass Resurrection Downtown.

In fact, this past week, a representative from KCPT reached out and wanted to connect with our community directly. KCPT wants to make sure you're "in the room where it all happens." Your Kansas City PBS station has made a personal invitation to you, members of Resurrection Downtown, to join them at the final KC Mayoral debate between the candidates who want to be your next mayor.

It's all happening in the neighborhood next Friday, June 14 at 9:30 am. If you are interested in attending, please use the RSVP link they shared with me a few days ago, a link specifically given for members of Resurrection Downtown. RSVP online here.

I am excited to see you this weekend in worship and I hope you have an amazing Friday!  May God meet you, fill you, and inspire you live and love with the peace, joy and light of Christ!

With Grace, Peace and God's Holy Adventure,

Scott Chrostek
