I hope this message finds you doing well today! I am waking up early, energized after a great evening of visioning with over 150 people talking about how God might be calling us to change the world going forward into the future. After lots of input and engagement, I am excited to think about how God will use us in the years to come to transform the heart of the city to better reflect those words Jesus taught us to pray, "Thy Kingdom Come."
This weekend we are continuing our sermon series on Prayer As Jesus Taught Us. This week we'll be focusing on forgiveness, forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. This will be a powerful sermon and a much needed message as each of us, throughout our lives, wrestle with trespasses and the need for forgiveness. I hope you'll invite friends to join us for another great weekend in worship.
One of my favorite aspects of worship (in addition to the powerful sermons) is the inspiring, authentic and often original music. Over the last several weeks, Glory Revival, as well as worship leaders and volunteers from each of our campuses at Resurrection gathered together at Resurrection Downtown to put together six original pieces of worship music. Check out the first of six music videos in this new collaborative project. These Living Room Sessions were born out of a desire to worship in community and write original music, and it started in an actual living room. I hope you enjoy them!
Also, given that Pastor Adam will be preaching on forgiveness this weekend. We thought it would be great to set aside some time for discussion on forgiveness, led by Pastor Anne. This weekend in worship, we want you to grab the book authored by Pastor Adam titled Forgiveness: Finding Peace through Letting Go, and mark your calendars for an evening discussion on forgiveness, Tuesday, September 11, 6:30 pm at 1601 Grand. Register here to let us know you're coming.
One of my favorite events that happens this time every year is Leadership Institute. Church of the Resurrection will host its 20th annual Leadership Institute, September 26-28 at Resurrection Leawood!
Leadership Institute brings together clergy, church staff and volunteers with a passion for developing as leaders, making disciples of Jesus Christ and strengthening the local church. More than 2,000 guests will visit us this week and we rely on (a lot of!) volunteers to fill a variety of roles to make our guests feel welcome and ready to receive God’s message for them. Interested in volunteering? Let us know.
Finally, due to the impending rain, we have unfortunately decided to CANCEL tonight’s First Friday Family Fun Night. Please help us spread the word! We’ll shoot to offer this event on October 5 and pray for better weather.
I'm sorry that we won't see you tonight at First Fridays, but I'm looking forward to seeing you this weekend in worship. I hope you'll invite friends and join us as we continue living into the power of the Lord's Prayer together!
Have a great Friday!
With Grace, Peace and God's Holy Adventure,
Can’t find something? Let us help.
