It has been an amazing week and a tough week at the same time, but one thing is for certain, this weekend is going to be a powerful weekend in worship.
All week long we have been ramping up for fall and are now ready to kick-off the new school year this weekend! All weekend long we will pray over the students, teachers and staff as they head back for a new school year. As a part of this, we are encouraging all of our kids to bring their backpacks for a special blessing! After each service we'll be giving every child a special back-to-school gift, and as an added treat, we'll have Kona Ice trucks and activities for the kids after each morning service (we'll also have sweet treats to hand out on Saturday and Sunday nights). I hope you'll join us, invite friends and get excited about the year ahead.
This weekend Pastor Adam will be back in the pulpit, sharing an inspiring message in response to last weekend's tragic shooting in the Crossroads Arts District that touched our congregation in a very personal way. Pastor Adam is planning on asking the questions:
"How do we reconcile God’s love at the heart of the gospel with terrible tragedies like these? Why does the violence continue and what would Jesus say to us about addressing it? Thoughts and prayers are not enough, so what more can we as individuals and as a congregation do? And, where do we find hope in the face of these tragedies?"
I hope you'll join us for a very important weekend in worship as well as for this very important message.
KiDSCOR help still needed! Do you enjoy interacting with the kids in our congregation? Do you think volunteering in KiDSCOR could be one of the ways you engage with our church community? If so, I encourage you to attend a red carpet-themed training and celebration on Friday, Aug. 16 at 6:30 pm. The KiDSCOR team will answer your questions, hold a brief training, look at the year ahead and then you'll spend some time having fun and getting to know each other! Email Christijo.Brunner@cor.org with questions.
Individuals with special needs and their siblings are invited to a fun-filled afternoon with a special surprise, crafts, activities and fellowship while parents and caregivers take an afternoon for themselves. Saturday, Aug. 24, 1-4 pm at 1601 Grand. Matthew's Ministry is open to those who aren't members of Resurrection Downtown! For questions, registration or to volunteer, email Hannah.Murray@cor.org.
I am looking forward to seeing you this weekend and I hope you have a great Friday here in Kansas City! I'll see you soon!
