Greetings RezDowntowners,

I hope all is well with you this Friday. It has been a crazy week full of activity and heat! It's like we've fast forwarded to summer already! All week long I have (along with the staff team) been looking forward to another great weekend, not just in worship, but as a community. Tomorrow night, Saturday night, we are hosting our long awaited and highly anticipated RezDT Family Picnic at Macken Park from 5:30 to 7:30pm. It is going to be a blast to hang out with so many of you on a beautiful Kansas City evening. Bring a picnic dinner, your fun yard games if you'd like, and look forward to some nice surprises (dessert) that will be sure to bless the whole family! (For more information about this event, look for it below in the body of this note.) Then after a great night in the park, we'll be ready for worship on Sunday! And this weekend's focus will be on Mr. Rogers, his life, love and witness, as I'll be preaching on A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood as you'll see below. As a part of this weekend, I am planning to dress the part complete with a cardigan sweater and some blue tennis shoes. I hope you'll join me by showing up to worship dressed like Mr. Rogers as we'll be giving away a very special gift to the best dressed look alike at each service! So be sure to come looking like Mr. Rogers!!! Who cares if it will be 90 degrees!

In the meantime, here's some information about what's going on this weekend and in the coming weeks at Resurrection Downtown.

This Weekend in Worship

This weekend I'll be preaching on the movie A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, a heart-warming film about Mr. Rogers and the kindness and love he showed to everyone he encountered. The movie is great for the whole family, and I encourage you to watch it (I've had it on repeat all week!), but I'll make sure my sermon makes sense whether you've seen it or not.

KiDSCOR will be open and there isn't any need to pre-register your kids, so you can simply show up and we'll have room for you. As always, if you can't make it in person, you can also worship online at cor.org/live or on our YouTube channel any time this week.

Picnic and Game Night!

Tomorrow, June 12, 5:30-7:30 pm at Macken Park in North KC

After a year of little connection, let's gather outdoors for a night of community and FUN! Bring a picnic dinner if you'd like – games, frisbees, balls, or other fun activities. We'll provide dessert and make sure there's a kick ball game happening as well.

Invite friends, family and neighbors! No registration required. Questions? Contact Kelly.Sisney@cor.org.

Movie Night at Resurrection Downtown

Friday, June 18, 6:30 pm

Bring your favorite blanket and/or pillow (we'll have chairs set up too) as we gather to watch the movie, The Mitchells vs. the Machines. Come enjoy movie snacks and open space in the sanctuary! No registration is required. For questions, contact Kelly.Sisney@cor.org.

Serve Saturday Next Week

Saturday, June 19, 9 am – noon

Join us for a COVID-cautious Serve Saturday! Registration is required to ensure proper social distancing. Volunteers will go directly to their selected serve site on Saturday morning. Some locations have specific COVID-related guidelines for volunteers. We have lots of great opportunities, including family-friendly and outdoor options, food pantries, assisting with donation sorting, yard beautification, community garden opportunities, and more. Register here now.

Men’s Pickleball Tournament

Saturday, June 26, 7-9 am

Chicken N Pickle (North Kansas City) is hosting a Resurrection Men’s Pickleball Tournament. Spots are limited, so don’t hesitate to sign up. This will be doubles play, so you can sign yourself up and be placed on a team or invite a friend to join you and sign up as a team. Level of experience does not matter; all are welcome. Though, the winning team will have their names etched into the Resurrection Men’s Pickleball Golden Paddle for perpetuity (this is a real thing). Free Pickleball. Free Coffee. Free Good Times. Email Pastor Matt.Bisel@cor.org to sign up or if you have any questions.

Celebrating Pastor Scott

Sunday, June 27, during each worship service

Join us for a Celebration Sunday as Pastor Scott preaches for the last time as "Campus Pastor"! On Sunday, June 27, at the 9 & 11 am services, we will be honoring Pastor Scott before he begins his new role as the Executive Director of Ministries and Programs. He will be preaching live here at Downtown and we'll be celebrating in special ways. Don’t miss it!

I hope you have a great Friday and I'm looking forward to spending the weekend with you starting Saturday night and then again in worship on Sunday!

With Grace, Peace and God's Holy Adventure,

Scott
