This week one of our congregants was disappointed he got scheduled to work at his place of employment during his regular worship time. That’s why I was so surprised to see him walk in on Sunday morning. He shared that he had a thirty minute break and grabbed the streetcar down to catch just twenty minutes of the worship service. He later wrote “I got in two songs and I needed that.” Isaiah 26 says it this way, My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you.

I’ve been thinking about him ever since, because he represents something I’ve noticed seems unique about Resurrection Downtown. Each of us here needs our faith. We don’t participate casually or out of obligation. We depend on it like a lifeline. We worship, pray, grow, give, serve, and share because we are desperate for that hope we have in Jesus. I feel that urgency, the longing, and the way that it anchors us to God, who loves us.

I’m so excited to have the opportunity to preach live at Resurrection Downtown this weekend, and I hope you’ll join me if you feel safe doing so! Thank you for allowing me to be your pastor, it is an incredible privilege.
