Celebrating 8 Years of Advent at Resurrection Downtown

Greetings RezDowntowners,

Happy December!!! I can't believe it is already the first Friday in December and the start of advent. Christmas is definitely coming.

It has been a great week in the life of our church and I know that this weekend is shaping up to be phenomenal. Eight years ago tonight, a group of about 25 of us gathered together in the sanctuary of the Grand Avenue Temple UMC to decorate our temporary sanctuary for our first-ever weekly worship service. To prepare for our launch, we hung wreaths, decorated the trees, and prepared our space for the season of Advent and the start of our mission to build Christian community in the heart of this city. It has been amazing to see how much God has done with us, through us and even in spite of us at times. And I cannot wait to see where God leads us into the future.

And yet, tonight marks a great moment in our history to celebrate, remember and look forward. At 6:30 pm, we are planning to deck the halls and prepare our space for our 8th Christmas at RezDT and with the advent of our new building we have the opportunity to decorate our sanctuary on McGee for possibly the last time. So come on out and join me, my family and the rest of the RezDT staff as we prepare for the most wonderful time of the year!

Secondly, I wanted to share with you that I am so grateful for each of you and your commitment to our growth here in the heart of KC. After the first two weeks of commitments we are slightly ahead of where we were last year when it comes to pledges. We have an increase of about 30 commitments (approximately 14%) over last year at the same time. With everything we are dreaming of doing in the coming year, I want to invite you, if you were not able to submit your 2018 commitment card in person, please go online and fill it out. Our mission and ministry depend upon your faithfulness and generosity.

I can't wait to celebrate with you this weekend and I'm so looking forward to experiencing the joy of Christmas with you again (our 8th year) as we anticipate another amazing season of Advent in the heart of the city. I'll see you soon and whether it's tonight for decorating or this weekend for worship, I pray that you will experience good tidings of great joy!

Grace, Peace and God's Blessings,

Pastor Scott
