A Beautiful Blanket of Snow

Greetings RezDowntowners,

Last night it was so cool to get home with Freddy after what has been a packed week to encounter a fresh blanket of snow! Freddy was so full of wonder and excitement, and after a few audible, "Wows" he quickly turned to me and said, "Santa's coming soon!" I thought to myself, he is right! We are rapidly moving toward Thanksgiving, Advent and Christmas... it is hard to believe it! I am so excited to be able to celebrate our first Candlelight Christmas Eve in the new space at 1601 Grand!

This weekend is shaping up to be a great weekend as our first Family Retreat is taking place in Parkville on Saturday and Sunday, that should be a great time for our families to grow closer with each other and also with God.

In worship we'll be continuing in our series of sermons on The Fruitful Life. Pastor Adam will be focusing on the importance of pruning, cutting back as a way of producing new life, or bearing new fruit. This will be a great and powerful message, and I'd love for you to invite friends and join us in worship.

Also, if you picked up Thanksgiving Meal Bags a few weeks ago, we would love for you to return your filled Thanksgiving Meal Bags for Avenue of Life to the church this weekend as well! You can also visit our JOY in Serving table in the lobby to claim one of the limited opportunities to JOYfully give through gifts, your time, or financially. To check out all the ways you can serve this season, visit cor.org/downtown/joy.

We've had such a great turnout over the last several months with our small groups gathering on Monday nights and each week we are studying new devotions and insights on guiding Scripture and mediations. If you haven't followed along with these studies online, please be sure to check out this blog post from Pastor Anne, she shares the last of our small group reflections before the Advent Study begins. You can check out Pastor Anne's as well as all of the past reflections and latest releases from the COR Worship Collective at theholyordinary.com.

Coffee with the Pastors

Are you ready to make Resurrection Downtown your church home? Gather with us this Sunday, Nov. 111:30 pm at 1522 McGee for Coffee With the Pastors to hear about what it means to be a United Methodist and the expectations for membership within Resurrection. If you are interested in joining us, please register HERE. Email Shannon.Endicott@cor.org with any questions.

Unafraid Book Presentation

Finally, we have a very special opportunity to gather together this coming Wednesday with our Senior Pastor Adam Hamilton.  This Wednesday, Pastor Adam is going to lead us through a study on Fear at Resurrection Downtown. Fear is a complex emotion. Sometimes it saves us. Most often it robs us of the life we want. But we can take back our lives… Join us at 1601 Grand on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 7 pm to hear from Pastor Adam Hamilton on his book Unafraid: Living With Courage and Hope in Uncertain Times. Adam will stay after his presentation to sign books, available for $17. (Book purchase not required to attend!). This is going to be such a timely study given the recent tragedy that have taken place in Thousand Oaks, CA.

I'm looking forward to seeing you this weekend in worship and I am so looking forward to seeing where God leads us into the future!

With Grace, Peace and God's Holy Adventure,

Scott
