At Resurrection, our purpose is to build a Christian community where non-religious and nominally religious people are becoming deeply committed Christians. This means being the kind of place where everyone can feel at home. For our sisters, brothers and others in the LGBTQ community, we host several gatherings with a variety of goals. Maybe you’re looking for a small group to help you dive deeper into your faith. Maybe you’re looking for ways to understand the LGBTQ questions that you might better offer care to friends and family. Maybe you just want a safe place to learn, share and grow. No matter where you are, we want to meet you there. You’re in the right place.
Recently an article was published on flatlandkc.org called Keeping the Faith in Kansas City ~ Religious Leaders, Congregants Fight Antithetical Beliefs by Catherine Hoffman. In the article, Mike Havens, a Church of the Resurrection member, is interviewed sharing a personal story of his faith and family. Build faith through fellowship and study. Guys and Yahweh provides space for gay Christian men to connect and share in the journey of knowing, loving and serving God and others. Through fellowship, study, worship and service, our small group will strengthen the spiritual discovery and growth of each participant. It is our hope those who have been hurt by previous experiences or have limited church exposure will find a welcome place in our group. As we share the story of our lives with others and see more clearly how our story connects with the larger story of God’s redemptive activity, we make progress toward the goal of becoming deeply committed Christians.
Currently, we meet online via Zoom from 6:30-8 pm the first three Mondays of the month. We will engage in an hour of studying Scripture, which may include how our lives as gay men fit into the teachings of the Bible. The fourth Monday of the month, we gather in downtown KCMO for fellowship and dinner.
