Each year, around this time - when the Chiefs are playing championship football - we hold our biggest food drive of the year to support Kansas City families and individuals who are dealing with food insecurity. Become a champion for hunger by joining us today!
In Johnson and Wyandotte County, Ks and Jackson County, Mo, over 158,000 people lived in poverty in 2022. An annual poverty line income of $27,750 for a family of 4 couldn’t cover 2022’s 10% rise is food costs. With an additional food cost increase of 4.5% expected this year, these people desperately need our help.
The cost to feed a family of 4 on a low-cost meal plan in 2023 equates to:
A Family of 4 living in poverty earns $27,750 annually (less 11% tax rate).
Your monetary gifts offer our pantry partners the ability to purchase and distribute meat, dairy, and fresh produce for those struggling with food insecurity. It’s only through your generosity that we are able to continue helping our partner pantries in these communities to keep their doors open.
Pick up a bag on January 29 at all of our locations and donate food items:
Please no expired, dented or glass donations.
Please return donations bags to your preferred Resurrection location by February 19th.
We need your help! Fill out our volunteer application and sign up to volunteer with any of our Hunger Ministries.

Cultural Competency training is required before serving in ongoing Kansas City Mission programs in order to provide a safe environment for all those we serve. Empowering and educational, this training will provide each participant with a heightened awareness about our neighbors and cross-cultural interactions. Those who need this training may be interested in serving on the bookmobile, at the food pantry, as a tutor, or in a classroom at one of our partner schools. Additionally, individuals who are interested in serving with our partner organizations should plan to take this training.
All sessions will take place in person. Seating is limited and classes not meeting a minimum size may be rescheduled so please register early.
Safe Gatherings certification is also required for those working in the schools. If you are not already Safe Gatherings certified (certification lasts four years) you can begin that process by filling out a volunteer application here.

Our TRUCK drivers must comply with DOT regulations and the following requirements must be met:
How You Can Serve: 5-8 volunteers are needed for each delivery shift to help rearrange boxes onto pallets to prepare orders for delivery, load the truck and deliver food to local pantries.
Delivery Dates: Deliveries take place in the mornings from 8:15 am-noon.
Requirements: Volunteers must be 16 and older, and able to repeatedly lift heavy boxes (up to 40 lbs).
Where: Meet at Resurrection Mission Center at 15455 Metcalf Avenue. Click here for driving directions.
Donation bins are available for solicited donations. Items are welcomed for Hunger Stoppers and Partner School throughout the year.
Please check the Hunger and Partner Schools webpages to see acceptable and needed items.

The need for affordable housing is immense, and the lasting impact homeownership can have on families and individuals is undeniable.
There are more than 13,000 families in Kansas City struggling to find affordable housing. We are excited to be partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City to build new affordable homes.
The homes are not free – each family who partners with Habitat is making a personal and financial investment in their future. Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City partners with families to provide strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. Through this partnership, each family has the opportunity to build or rehab and purchase their own decent home with an affordable zero-interest mortgage.
Upcoming Opportunities with Habitat KC:
Resurrection is participating in a very special build this Spring. We will help build a fully accessible home for a young girl, and her family, who experienced a tragedy that left her paralyzed from the neck down. Click HERE to find out more information and to register to volunteer.

After more than twelve years of effective ministry, in helping to close the Digital Divide, we have concluded that the current version of Geeks4God is no longer viable. This is due primarily to Microsoft's planned obsolescence of Windows 10 and the intentional inability of older equipment to run Windows 11. While we spend time researching and discerning what the future ministry of Geeks4God will be, we would like to point you to a few local resources.

Lead to Read KC’s mission is to support the social, emotional, and reading skills that are foundational for student success by mobilizing community volunteers to read with students in elementary schools. This fall, Lead to Read KC will be working with students in one of our partner schools, Wheatley Elementary.
Lead to Read KC is recruiting volunteers, both virtual and in-person, to read for 30 minutes once a week with elementary students. Most reading sessions occur around lunchtime—no evenings or weekends! Apply online, complete a short online training session, and begin reading with a student who needs support now more than ever! Currently the program is virtual, so you will need a computer (desktop, laptop or tablet) with audio and video, and reliable internet. They anticipate going back into the schools in the fall to read and mentor students in-person.
