This Sunday in worship we began the season of Advent, which includes four weeks of preparation leading up to our Christmas celebration of the birth of Jesus.

This is one of my favorite times of the year. I love seeing the church all decorated with greenery and lights. (Thank you to all those who helped!) I love to hear the first carols we sing together and to watch our families light the candles of the Advent wreath. This week we lit the candle symbolizing hope and we heard the story of the angel Gabriel’s message to Mary. It was an inspiring start to the season, and we'll have more to come.

Kicking off our Advent activities is our Merry Little Christmas Event for families on Saturday, December 4, 9 – 11 am. This will be a fun opportunity for the whole family. We will have a living nativity with animals and characters, an opportunity to serve our partner schools, hot cocoa and treats, and a chance to get your photos with Santa. We’d love for you to share the event with your neighbors and friends.

Then on Wednesday, December 8, we will gather at the church at 5:30 pm and load up on a trolley to head out for some Christmas caroling. The whole family is invited! We’ll provide song sheets for the carols and afterwards we’ll warm back up at the church with hot cocoa and goodies. It will be a fun evening together.

Don’t’ forget to sign up to be a part of one of our Open Table dinner groups between Dec. 6 – 22, and make sure to mark your calendars for Serve Saturday on December 18. We’ll be headed to Lazarus Table to provide a Christmas meal for the homeless. Contact Sherree Gorman if you’d like to help serve or prepare food.

Finally, we are grateful to those of you who have completed your pledge card for 2022. I have been working this week on next year’s budget and your gifts are what make all of it possible. We’ve got some great plans, so If you haven't already, please take a moment to fill out your online commitment. You can pick up a 2022 mug as our thank you during office hours Monday – Thursday 10 am - 3 pm. We also have Advent wreaths for anyone who needs one.

Enjoy this beautiful weather. I hope to see you this weekend.
