Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
It is hard to believe that this Sunday is our third weekend in Advent! Though the influx of JOY donations to our mission shelves is certainly an indication that we are getting close to Christmas.
If you haven't yet participated in one of our serving opportunities (or even if you have) I want to encourage you to join us at our partner school for the JOY Parties on Friday, Dec. 20, to celebrate a semester of learning and the JOY of the season. We still need volunteers to help in the classrooms. If you cannot get away on a Friday, then maybe Saturday’s serving opportunity at Lazarus Table would work better. Come and serve or think about providing some cheesy potatoes for the meal. We still have need for a few side dishes.
Sunday in worship we will continue with our Advent series, The King is Born! We'll light the third candle in the Advent wreath and turn to Isaiah, the Old Testament prophet, that gave the sign of Immanuel - a child who would be born. This child was to be a sign or reminder that God is with us and therefore we need not be afraid. This is a message that is still very relevant today!
Then on Wednesday night, we’re offering a Blue Christmas Gathering at our home. This is a quiet evening of food, fellowship and a few moments of reflection for those for whom the holidays may be a challenge this year. You may be facing the holidays without a loved one, dealing with some hard stuff, carrying the weight of a broken world in your profession, or caring for others who are facing challenging times. If so, this evening is designed just for you. Feel free to invite a friend as well.
If you didn’t get the opportunity to immerse yourself in the great music at the Evensong at our Downtown campus a couple of weeks ago, I am excited to share that the COR Worship Collective (made up of writers and worship leaders from all our Resurrection campuses) has released a collection of Christmas songs! You can get "ADVENT 1" wherever you stream or download music and add it to your music library. Mike, our worship leader, and his daughter, Olivia, lead a beautiful new rendition of “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” on the collection that you do not want to miss.
Take a moment to sign up to serve at one of our Candlelight Christmas Eve services. This year we have four services at 1, 3, 5 & 7 pm. We need ushers, greeters, nursery workers, hospitality, and more. We want to provide a warm welcome to the many who will be coming to hear the hope that is found in Christ!
