Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope yesterday was a great start to a wonderful holiday weekend with family and friends. Our Thanksgiving was quite a bit smaller than normal but we enjoyed all our traditional favorites: the Macy’s parade, turkey and all the trimmings, a beautiful walk in the afternoon and playing board games late into the evening.

In the midst of a hard year, these moments are evidence of God still at work in our lives, and I am grateful.

I was also blessed this week to touch base with some of you as we made our Thanksgiving phone calls. We tried to reach out to everyone on our active list. I didn’t realize what good it would be for my soul to hear from you, to find out that most of you are remaining connected through online worship.

If you didn’t hear from us, chances are we don’t have accurate phone numbers for you – drop us an email and let us know if your contact information has changed.

God wants us to develop intentional spiritual habits that reflect the life of a believer. The more deeply you understand God's love, the more grateful and at peace you're going to be.

This weekend in worship, we begin the season of Advent, which includes the four weeks of preparation for celebrating Christmas. Pastor Adam will being a new sermon series based on his book Incarnation: Rediscovering the Significance of Christmas. This weekend we'll focus on the royal titles, Messiah or Christ, and what it means to call Jesus our king.

If you made your own Advent wreath or purchased an Advent wreath, you'll want to prepare to light the first candle during worship. You will also want to have a drop of olive oil, vegetable oil, scented oil or lotion ready at the conclusion of the sermon. Pastor Adam will explain this during the message.

Invite a friend and join us Saturday (5 pm) or Sunday (7:30 am, 9:15 am, 11 am, or 5 pm) at or on Channel 38 "The Spot" at 8 am or 11 am.

Advent Opportunities

Other upcoming Advent activities include our online Incarnation study led by Mike Ash beginning Wednesday, Dec. 2, 6:30-8 pm, or the church-wide Advent study led by all of our Resurrection campus pastors at the same time.

You also won't want to miss our Family Christmas Drive Through on Saturday, December 12 from 3:30 - 5 pm. This will be a fun opportunity for the whole family.

Stewardship Update

We are grateful to those of you who were already able to complete your pledge card for 2021 last weekend. I loved seeing many of you last Sunday as you drove through to pick up your 2021 Resurrection coffee mug and Advent kits! The coffee mugs are a small thank you for your financial commitment to our church, which makes possible the mission and ministry of our church and, in particular, our campus.

To see what uncommon generosity has made possible and to find resources for determining your investment in Church of the Resurrection's continued ministry, click here. If you haven't already, take a moment to fill out your online pledge card here. You can drive by and pick your mug up again this Sunday 12:30–2:30 pm or Monday from 6–8 pm. You can also pick up your Advent kit at that time if you ordered one.

Enjoy the rest of this beautiful weekend! I’m headed to the attic to begin the fall-to-Christmas transformation in our home. I want to have my Advent wreath ready for worship! I hope you’ll join us.

I’m grateful for each of you!

In Christ,

Pastor Penny
