Happy Thanksgiving! I will be praying for safe travel and good health for all of you today as we prepare to gather with friends and family to celebrate the holiday. We’re headed out for a couple days to connect with family we haven’t seen in person for over two years. We’re looking forward to it!

As we reflect on all the things we’re grateful for this week, you all are on my list. I am so grateful to be a part of this loving and caring community. I was moved on Sunday, as I am every year, to watch many of you coming forward to leave your commitment cards for the work and ministry of the coming year. I know others have done so online and through the mail as well and I thank you all for your faithfulness.

As we’ve learned over these past few weeks in our sermons, one of the ways we invest for life is to return a portion of our financial resources to God, through our gifts and offerings. These gifts make the ministries of the church possible - everything from children’s activities to serving in the community. You can see a pretty good glimpse of what that looks like here in this enote as we begin our Advent season.

With that said, let me share a couple of invitations. . . During Advent, we will have Open Table Dinner groups gathering, one time, for fellowship and fun at local restaurants between December 6 and 22. Groups will enjoy some good food and talk about the sermon series and book The Journey by Pastor Adam. Right now, we need volunteers to serve as dinner hosts. This is a great opportunity to meet some new people and share in some Christmas cheer. If you are interested, sign up here. Once our hosts are in place, we’ll open registration for the dinner groups.

Next is our Merry ‘Little’ Christmas Event for families on December 4 from 9 - 11 am. All are welcome to enjoy a visit with Santa Claus, create a craft project supporting KC area foster kids, and visit a living nativity with bible characters and live animals. You can also pick up free Family Advent Kit filled with activities to help brighten your family’s Christmas season! Register here.

Then on Wednesday, December 8, we’ll hop on a trolley and take the joy of Christmas to the streets with a Caroling party. Come with family, invite friends, and join us. We’ll depart the church at 6 pm so come early. We’ll enjoy coffee, hot chocolate and cookies after sharing Christmas carols with our neighbors and some of our homebound folks. Sign up here. You don’t have to have a great singing voice - you just need to make a joyful noise and smile!

These events are great opportunities to experience the true meaning of Christmas and connect in community! We’d love to have you join us for worship too as we light the Advent wreath and begin ourJourney to Bethlehem this Sunday. Be sure to check out other upcoming opportunities below.
