Keeping Traditions is So Meaningful to Me

Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,

Despite the cold, it was a special evening at our Outdoor Ash Wednesday Experience this week where we began the season of Lent. It was good to see those of you who came out to read scripture, pray and burn your confessions before receiving the imposition of ashes. Being able to keep these traditions has been so important to me and many of you expressed the same. We also love any opportunity to to see your faces and connect with you in person.

As we enter this season of self-reflection, repentance and recommitment to our faith, Pastor Adam and I have two Lenten challenges for you:

  1. To be in worship each weekend of Lent, the six weekends leading up to Easter, and
  2. To read the Gospel of Mark during Lent. He'll be preaching through Mark, the earliest and most concise Gospel written, throughout Lent.

The Gospel of Mark

We have several ways for you to engage in a study of the Gospel of Mark. First is to join one of our Lenten small groups meeting over the next six weeks. We have groups meeting on Sunday or Tuesday nights from 6:30-8 pm beginning this week. Register here for one of those.

Second, you could join the Resurrection pastors online on Wednesday nights for the All Church Study of Mark's gospel. Each week one of our pastors will offer a 30-minute teaching, followed by about 30 minutes of live, interactive conversation via Zoom. I’ll be leading Week 5 of this study. You can visit cor.org/next for more info and to request the Zoom link.

Third, would be to engage in your own personal study using the Lenten journal’s prepared by the church along with our Daily GPS Guide. The GPS offers daily Scripture readings, reflection questions, and a personal insights reflection and follows our sermon topics each week. During Lent this year, the readings will be focused on the Gospel of Mark.

If you haven’t already done so, you can subscribe and have the GPS sent directly to your inbox each day.

Lent Journals and Family Experience Kits

If you weren't able to make it to our Outdoor Ash Wednesday Experience to pick up a Lent journal or Family Experience Kit, please know you can come by our offices (601 NE Jefferson St.) Monday - Thursday, 10 am - 3 pm to pick these up. We will also have them available to pick up at our Donation Drop off Saturday from 9-12 pm.

Worship this Weekend

Pastor Adam will kick off our Lenten series with a message entitled "Just the Beginning..." as a part of our new sermon series Walk With Jesus Through the Gospel of Mark.

Please tune in at cor.org/live starting at 5 pm on Saturday or at 7:30 am, 9:15 am, 11 am or 5 pm on Sunday, or on our Youtube channel, on-demand all day Sunday. If you’re in the Kansas City area, you can also catch worship on local television channel KMCI 38 the Spot at 8 am or 11 am.

Serve Saturday

We have several opportunities to serve this weekend. Tomorrow, February 20, is our monthly Serve Saturday. There are several in-person opportunities. Due to our continued need to take precautions with Covid-19, we ask that all participants for a Serve Saturday site register in advance and then show up directly at that site, use personal protective equipment, and not bring unregistered helpers with you. Please invite friends and family to join you (and make sure to register them, too)!

If you’re not quite ready for in-person serving, we are collecting clothing and computer donations for our Monthly Donation Drive, as well as items for our Wendell Phillips families. Items can be dropped off at the East Entrance this Saturday from 9 am - 12 pm (note the extended time).

Thank you to those of you who turned out early to serve by donating blood at our Community Blood Center Blood Drive, too!

Inspired for Life Women's Conference this Weekend

This last message is for the ladies. Tonight our Inspired for Life Women’s Conference begins and there is still time to sign up! The conference is online this year, making it easier than ever to participate.

Experience "Grace Upon Grace" with nationally-recognized speakers, inviting worship, interactive sessions, small group connections and more... all from your "front row" seat at home. You can find more information and register here.

Have a great weekend and enjoy this warming weather!
