We Have an Important Role in Our Community

Hi Resurrection Overland Park,

In the new year, we recognize the opportunity to start fresh or with a renewed sense of optimism.

However, this week reminded us of the significant challenges confronting our communities and nation. I was glued to the news on Wednesday, really the whole week, and found myself praying, and praying again, as I watched.

I am convinced that we have an important role as people of faith and as a church to share the light and love of Jesus, no matter our politics, as we heal divisions, polarization, and disruption. I know we'll talk about this as Pastor Adam leads us in worship this weekend.

We need each other now, more than ever. I am grateful we share in community life together.

This Weekend in Worship

We'll continue in our sermon series on A Thinking Person's Guide to Faith. Pastor Adam will share a message called When Christians Get it Wrong as we look at some of the things in Christianity that keep people from faith as well as some of the things that go wrong because, well, we are people.

Join us Saturday (5 pm) or Sunday (7:30 am, 9:15 am, 11 am, or 5 pm) at or on Channel 38 "The Spot" at 8 am or 11 am.

Join a Small Group this Year!

We are launching new groups! More than ever, we have a deep need for authentic connection with others. New groups are forming for different age groups and life stages, including groups for navigating life after the death of a spouse, divorce recovery, parenting little ones, and every stage in between.

Our small groups are made up of about ten people who choose to grow in faith, study, and serve together for as little as a few months, or for many years to come.

If you are looking for a place to belong, enrollment begins January 10! Sign up to join one of our open or new small groups by clicking here or contact

A Thinking Person's Guide to Faith, Thursdays in January, from 7 to 8:15 pm. Last night, I hosted our first session online. It was a great conversation! You can still join me on Zoom for discussion and conversation related to the sermon series. We'll talk more in-depth on topics presented in the sermon series, explore our questions of faith and doubt, science and reason, life and purpose. Register here.

Third Grade Bibles

This year, we are presenting Bibles to our second group of third grade students. This is a special moment and tradition for students who receive their own Bible.

We plan to deliver Bibles to your home before the online gathering on January 31 at 1 pm. Pastor Adam will share a message, we'll explore our Bibles together, and make a campus connection. Register here by January 17 to ensure we can get the Bible to you in time.

Serve on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Take a day on to serve! There are more than 500 different ways to serve and make a difference in our community on Saturday, January 16 and Monday, January 18. With morning and afternoon sessions, we hope that you, your family or friends, or small group find a way to serve in a Covid cautious way at one of over 20 service agencies in the metro area. There are also many ways to serve from home.

As part of our MLK Weekend, we hope you enjoy learning together, serving with one another, and set the tone for a new year. Visit to sign up for both in-person and at home opportunities.

One More Thank You for 2021 Pledges

I want to thank you again for your generosity. Your gifts allowed us to do amazing things this last year, despite a global pandemic. If you haven't yet made your pledge for 2021, I would encourage you to do so at If you've already made your pledge, you’re welcome to stop by the office Monday through Thursday, 11 am to 4 pm to pick up your 2021 mug.

In Christ,

Joshua Clough
