Hello Resurrection Overland Park,

I'm enjoying the beautiful weather we've had here at the end of the week. This week, I've been wrapping up final plans and details for my parental leave. I'm looking forward to seeing you in worship this weekend. Then on Monday I begin my parental leave. I'll include some of those details again down below. For now, I'm looking forward to the weekend! Also, we have some exciting things going on this summer, so be sure to take a look.

This Weekend in Worship

Plan to join us this weekend in worship as we continue our sermon series, Streaming this Sunday. Rev. Scott Chrostek will be preaching on the movie Onward, a beautiful Disney film about two brothers who go on an adventure to spend one more day with their late father. Join us in person at 9 am and 11 am or online Saturday at 5 pm or Sunday at 7:30 am, 9 am, 11 am, or 5 pm, on YouTube, or the television broadcast Channel 38 "The Spot" at 8 and 11 am.

Tomorrow is Fresh Air Fitness on the Back Lawn!

Ready to be back together with friends!? Join us for some time to reconnect, laugh, have a Saturday morning to yourself and also squeeze in a little exercise! Fitness instructor and RezOP mom Leah Barth will lead us in a light cardio workout with lots of stretching tomorrow from 10 to 11:30 am. All ages, bodies, and experience levels are welcome. Bring water, a yoga mat or beach towel and a friend! In case of rain, we'll meet inside. Register here.

Digging Deeper, June 9, 7-8:30 pm

Would you like to dig deeper into the message and scripture of our new sermon series? Join Suzy and Jess Lovell for a closer look at the first two movies in our Gospel in Film series "Harriet" and "Upward" on Wednesday, June 9. You can join in person or online. Let us know you're coming by registering here.

Family Playdate Sunday June 13

Stick around after second service or come back after lunch and join other OP parents and kiddos for some fun on the back lawn from 12:30-2:00 pm! We will have lawn games, treats, and plenty of time to get to know other young families. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and feel free to invite friends!

Movie Night Friday, June 18!

Bring your family and friends to watch the movie, The Mitchells vs The Machines, at RezOP Friday, June 18 at 6:30 pm. Doors open at 6 pm for a hot dog dinner and the movie starts at 6:30 in the Worship space. Bring pillows and blankets and save some room for popcorn! Click here to let us know you're coming.

Men's Pickleball Tournament, Saturday June 26, 7-9 am

Chicken N Pickle (North Kansas City) is hosting a Resurrection Men's Pickleball Tournament. Spots are limited, so sign up soon as a single or double! No experience required, but the winning team will have their names etched into the Rez Men's Pickleball Golden Paddle for perpetuity. Free Pickleball! Free coffee! Free good times! Email Pastor Matt.Bisel@cor.org to sign up or if with questions.

New Pastoral Intern

This week, we welcome our new pastoral intern, Jess Lovell. You may recognize Jess as one of our Care Ministers where she has served on our team for the past year. Jess is excellent in ministry and provides wonderful care to our church. I am thrilled to work with her. She is pursuing her Masters of Divinity degree at St. Paul School of Theology and has a call to pastoral ministry. She cares deeply for others and I am looking forward to the ministry she will provide to our community. She'll be in worship this weekend so be sure to say hello.

Getting Ready for Parental Leave

Last week, I shared with you I am taking parental leave this summer. I am grateful for the opportunity afforded me by our church. My leave begins Monday, June 7. I'll return to the office Monday, August 2. While I am away, Rev. Tino Herrera, who is a good friend and one of our excellent pastors at Resurrection, will provide pastoral leadership on the weekends. During the week, our congregational care team will be available. Suzy Ayres, our Director of Operations, will continue to lead our location while I'm on leave.

This team will ensure we have a great summer! I'm hoping to bring Adalynn (and maybe Claire too) to worship or an event or two.

We are preparing for a wonderful weekend in worship. I'll see you on Sunday.

In Christ,

Joshua
