Greetings RezDowntowners,

It is the first Friday of September!!! Today is the day and tonight is the night! Join us in the 1601 Grand parking lot during First Fridays as we celebrate our Family Fun Night.

We have been preparing for this night for over a year and we're excited to celebrate with all of you tonight. This year's gathering will be especially poignant in light of recent tragedies. These are the moments when we are called to show up and be present for each other, to celebrate the best of Kansas City! So, I hope you'll join us tonight. We'll have free hot dogs for everyone (while supplies last), and bounce houses, crafts, face painting and ice cream for the kiddos from 6-7:30 pm. The Kansas City Chiefs will be there to sell their Chiefs Kingdom flags. The Mayor will be there to celebrate as well. Parking will be very limited. We'll only be able to sell 50 spaces, with all proceeds going to Rose Brooks Center in honor of Erin Langhofer. Once those spots are full, there will be street parking. We look forward to seeing you there!

Switching gears now, this weekend in worship, we'll press "pause" on our Ten Commandments series to talk about a very serious and relevant issue. Sunday, Sept. 8, is the beginning of National Suicide Prevention Week 2019. During worship all weekend long we'll focus on the increasing epidemic of suicide. Pastor Adam will lead us as we talk about statistics and provide resources both for those who might be struggling with depression or suicidal thoughts, and for talking about suicide with your family.

This weekend in worship will be pivotal, maybe life-saving, as we shed light on this often-avoided topic that impacts us all. I hope you'll attend and invite friends and family, or those whose lives have been touched by suicide, as we search together for God's hope in the wake of despair.

This is going to be a huge weekend! In the meantime, here are some things coming up in the life of our church...

On Saturday, Oct. 19, the Kansas City Marathon will pass right by our building. This got the staff team wondering... how many of you are either participating or have a friend or family member participating? Would you be interested in cheering someone on from our parking lot (starting at 6 am)? Email Jamie.Cindrich@cor.org to let us know.

We're still looking for an additional staff person to join our KiDSCOR team! Work to change the lives of our littlest members by assisting Sarah Elliott with organizing volunteers, lesson planning and prep, and connecting with families and kids in the downtown community. Learn more and apply HERE! Reach out to Sarah.Elliott@cor.org with questions.

Rezlife (Grades 6 – 12) Fall Kick-off is Sept. 10, 6–8 pm at Chicken N Pickle in North KC. Play yard games and hang out, while parents learn more about what is coming up. Reach out to Sarah.Elliott@cor.org with questions.

Starting Sept. 18, we're excited to offer Financial Peace University at Resurrection Downtown. This life-changing 9-week program on personal finance is designed to empower people to manage their money better, eliminate debt and build wealth. Interested in learning more about this course or signing up? Check it out on our website here.

I can't wait to see you tonight at our Family Fun Fest and then again in worship. Have a great Friday!

With Grace, Peace and God's Holy Adventure,

Scott
