Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs!

We were disappointed that the rain didn’t allow us to meet in person on Wednesday evening on the back lawn for our Gathering of Hope. Our plan is to attempt it again this coming Wednesday, August 5, at 7:30 pm. Bring your blankets/lawn chairs, water and bug spray. (Access to the building, playground, and restrooms will not be available.) We’ll set up to be safe and socially distant and encourage you to wear a mask. For those of you who are unable to join us live, we’ll be reshowing this worship gathering on Thursday night at our regular 7 pm time from our Facebook page.

This weekend in worship, Pastor Scott Chrostek will share the first of two messages in a sermon series called, Resilient Faith: Becoming Resilient in the Face of Adversity. Scott is our Executive Pastor of Regional Campuses and the Resurrection Downtown Campus Pastor. We'll spend time looking at several scriptural heroes, including James (the brother of Jesus), and how we are called to be resilient in our faith, especially during times like these.

I hope you'll tune in and invite friends to join us! Online worship begins on Saturday at 5 pm and continues on Sunday at 7:30 am, 9:15 am, 11 am and 5 pm at cor.org/live. If you have been worshiping with us on TV at KSHB, channel 41, we'll be back in the 11 am time slot for this weekend and next.

We have two serving opportunities I want you to know about coming up in August. As our food pantry partners have seen the need for food increase by nearly 200% since mid-March and the ability to purchase in bulk at grocery stores impeded due to rationing, we’re calling on your help. We’re asking you to help us Build a Box to stop hunger. You’ll pick up a box, fill it with a supplied list of food, decorate it and return it for distribution at a local pantry. The details to Build a Box can be found here.

The second opportunity is to donate blood for the Community Blood Center on August 13 at our next blood drive. The Community Blood Center must collect almost 600 units of blood daily to meet the needs of area hospital patients. As there is no substitute for blood, they rely on volunteer donors like you to supply life-saving blood and blood components to hospitals in Kansas and Missouri. We will be hosting an onsite blood drive on Thursday, August 13, 3-6:30 pm, in our Sanctuary. Sign up for a time online here.

In the next week or so, I’ll be sending out email invitations for you to join a Zoom gathering with me and a group of up to 20 or so others from Resurrection Blue Springs. I’m attempting to gather you by neighborhoods for a short time of connection to see how you’re doing, share our upcoming plans for worship, and pray together. Be sure to watch for an email from me with the details for how and when to connect on Zoom. I look forward to seeing your faces!

We’re still collecting video clips for our 10 year anniversary so if you haven’t had a chance to do so, we’d love for you to take a moment to send us a message.

I pray you are well and if we can be of any support through this time, please don’t hesitate to call.

In Christ,

Pastor Penny
