Resurrection West,

What a beautiful weekend we are about to have and I’ve got many great things to share! I’m looking forward to getting outdoors at our Upward soccer games tomorrow morning. We’ve had over 80 players this season, along with their families, growing in faith and skill with amazing volunteer coaches, and my youngest daughter Kaia is even a referee!

I want to offer a special welcome to our newest members who joined last week at Coffee with the Pastors. We welcomed over 160 new members! It’s such a joy to welcome all of you to membership and I hope you’ll join me following the 11 am service for a meet-and-greet moment with Pastor Chris and myself this Sunday out in our Narthex.

This Sunday you will see a table in the Sanctuary with items we plan to include in our time capsule at West. You may have suggestions of other items we could include. If you do, please send those suggestions to my assistant Debbie Dietz at debbie.dietz@cor.org. You’ll see the tube that it will all go in and we hope to pack it full of items from this year in time to be opened 25 years from now in the year 2046. How cool is that?

Many of you have asked when we will celebrate Dave Robertson’s retirement. We will be celebrating Dave at the conclusion of worship on May 16 at both services here at Resurrection West. We plan to present him with a gift and offer a prayer of gratitude for Dave’s incredible ministry and service. We will have a reception in the Narthex after each service so you’ll have an opportunity to thank Dave personally.

This weekend we begin a new sermon series entitled People of the Light. Pastor Adam will be preaching through the letter to the church in Thessalonica written by the Apostle Paul. We know this letter in scripture as 1 Thessalonians. Scholars believe this could be the earliest letter written. There is much to learn in Paul’s letter about how we can be people of light and life to our community and world!

I hope you’ll consider inviting your friends and family to join us online cor.org/live, on television at 8 and 11 am on 38 The Spot, on demand at YouTube.com/churchoftheresurrection, or in person at any of our locations at 9 and 11 am - no registration required.

Vacation Bible Camp

I have begun transitioning into my new role as Pastor of Children and Families and it’s exciting to be with our KiDSCOR Directors weekly now. We're praying and planning for an amazing in-person Vacation Bible Camp summer experience for kids across over every location, along with a virtual option.

Vacation Bible Camp will kick-off on Sunday, July 18, in KiDSCOR Sunday school. Every household will go home with a link to a special video from Pastor Adam introducing the Great Adventure theme for the week. Kids will be learning how the Israelites trusted God in the Exodus story and how they can trust God too!

VBC will be in-person at all of our locations with a family-friendly Great Adventure Party on Friday night! Registration is open now at cor.org/VBC. There will also be a virtual option for those out of the KC area or not yet comfortable with in-person gatherings.

We need a lot of volunteers to help us introduce God’s love to all the kids who will participate in VBC this year. Sign up to serve now, and if you have kids who are Pre-K and under, we will provide childcare for you while you serve.

The Gospel According to Hamilton (The Musical)

A new study begins Wednesday night’s at cor.org/live from May 5th-May 26th called "The Gospel According to Hamilton (The Musical)." How can something this fun have so much to teach us about the Christian walk? This is a four-week class from 6:30-7:45 pm that will explore themes found in both the content and creation of the musical, paralleled with themes of Scripture. We will discuss a Christian approach to ambition, how we view history, and what the diversity in this production has to teach us. Don’t throw away your shot to take this class! Register now by clicking here.

Mother's Day

Finally, Mother’s Day is May 9, a week from this Sunday. Please email our Director of Worship Arts, Lindsay Blacksher, your favorite (mom-approved) picture to share in a video montage within our in-person worship service on Mother’s Day. We want to celebrate all the women in our lives who have influenced us. We hope you’ll share as we celebrate these amazing women! Email pics to lindsay.blacksher@cor.org by next Wednesday, May 5, to have your pic included in the in-person worship montage.

I'm looking forward to welcoming you to worship this weekend! See you in-person at 9 and 11 am, on TV, online at cor.org/live or on demand at YouTube.com/churchoftheresurrection.
