Hello Resurrection Overland Park,

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you have a wonderful day celebrating your loved ones and friendships. Claire and I are planning to enjoy a community event in downtown Overland Park.

I am looking forward to wrapping up our sermon series, An Irresistible Power: The Life and Love of Jesus, this Sunday by focusing on how we practice justice and serve others. Serving others is one way we show the love of Christ. I am looking forward to sharing a few stories from our campus as we seek to live this out in Overland Park. Bring a friend. It will be a great weekend! See you at 9:30 or 11 am.

Two Incredible Ministries

I want to highlight two specific ministries that happen at our campus each week.

The first is the Food Pantry. As you are aware, we serve close to 40 households each week. Our Sack Hunger Food Drive helps to meet the needs of these families, and we'll continue to have a food collection bin at the main entrance every Sunday.

On Thursday evenings we also host roughly 75 special needs teens and adults from care facilities around the area. This ministry is part of our Matthew’s Ministry called Evening Care. Do you have a heart for caring for others with special needs? Contact Suzy.Ayres@cor.org to be part of our incredible team!

These are just two ways we seek to walk humbly, practice loving kindness, and do justice in our community.

Serve Saturday on February 22

Our next Serve Saturday is coming up Feb. 22. Each month we serve our community through various projects and by working with partner agencies. This month, in addition to serving opportunities at our campus, we’ll be sending people to serve at Blessings Abound Thrift Store and Shawnee Community Services. It's also a great time to meet new people!

Ash Wednesday

We are quickly approaching the season of Lent. Lent is a time of preparation and focus, reminiscent of Jesus’ time in the wilderness which begins on what is called Ash Wednesday. We will host an Ash Wednesday service at our campus Feb. 26 at 7 pm which will include the imposition of ashes.

Each week, I look forward to Sunday morning worship. I find that I need that time of worship to renew my head and my heart. I learn more about the heart of Jesus and how Jesus desires for me to live because of this Christian community.

And, together, our work is to share the light of Christ where we live, work, and play.

See you Sunday,

Joshua
