It has been another fantastic month at RezDT. I am convinced that the heart of the city is being transformed through your gifts, the people you gather with to use them, and the hospitality you extend to others.  I continue to see you in action throughout the weeks whether it is at one of our Faithwork sites, a Vacation Bible Camp, around the world, or across the aisle at church.  Keep reading to learn more about opportunities to enhance your gifts, associate with others who want to serve with you, and to welcome new people into our journey to know, love and serve God!  We are eager to work alongside you to meet our 2017 mission goals:

  1. 100% of Wendell Phillips students blessed with seasonal gifts.
  2. 100 new Faithwork participants by joining us with a friend!
  3. 100 people growing in their ability to serve our neighbors by joining a class that enhances their serve.
  4. 100 days of deeply sacrificial service by taking vacation day(s) to serve. (Notify me personally if you are contributing.)

What's Coming Up?

While we preach the stories of the parables, we have an AMAZING invitation for you. Do you feel like you have a lot to share about the work you do in the community but struggle to say it?  Do you want to get better at telling the story you've got? In collaboration with the National Storytelling Network, RezDT is hosting a storytelling workshop!  This opportunity is open to anyone who wants to learn how to craft their story in a way that gets other people excited about joining you with their, time, talent and treasure.  To take advantage of this opportunity, register and join us Friday June 30th from 2-5pm before the Holiday weekend kicks off and you have lots of opportunities to share your story with friends, family and neighbors.  Please invite ANYONE who would benefit and register here:

Join KidsCor Director Sarah Brischle, her staff, and Faithwork volunteers as VBC takes over Margaret Kemp Park at 9th and Harrison.  VBC is on a 3 stop tour in 2017 in an effort to be more accessible to our neighbors.  The first event was held at Whittier Elementary School and was a huge success.  The final event will be at our True Vine ministry partner's site on August 5.  We'd love for you to bring your kids who are currently in Kindergarten through the 5th grade (2016-2017) school year to participate.  (Children age 3-4 years old are welcome with a parent/adult volunteering in some area of VBC.) Pre-register here or just show up that morning at the park. Volunteers needed starting at 8am that morning.  If you are interested in volunteering early or for the lunch let us know by emailing

We'll also have several other Faithwork volunteer opportunities like serving at the Healing House prior to their Baptism ceremony, the Paseo West Community Gardens, and Sheffield Place.  More can be learned about all of our Faithwork sites by visiting the Downtown Faithwork website.  Or just join us at 9am on Saturday July, 15 at RezDowntown--1522 McGee.

VBC attendees learn about the fruit of the spirit through song and dance. One parent noted in her thank you email that her boys are still dancing around the house and singing!

What's Been Going On?

Honduras Team Report

As I mentioned above, 9 people travelled to El Obraje Honduras and grew in their capacity as agents of change in the world.  We improved the health of four families and their guests by installing concrete floors in their homes.  The church helps select recipients and talented neighbors work tirelessly to install the floors while letting us work along side them.  We also conducted a spiritual gifts workshop for 50+ women who demonstrated a hunger for learning about God's gifts within them that I've never felt before.  With the leadership of a Women's leader from a neighboring town, and the women on our team, El Obraje is primed to experience a revival!  We are very fortunate to be a part of experiencing this work and receiving the hospitality of the community.  Finally, the team helped conduct a volleyball clinic for youth in the community.  Pastor Alejandro believes building a volleyball team will offer just one more way for their church to do outreach with their neighbors.

Bless The School Success!

Over the course of the week, July 17-23, Wendell Phillips Elementary School at 24th and Prospect got a huge facelift.  After moving into the Crispus Attucks building for the 2016-2017 school year, they finally got to make this space their own with fresh coats of paint, new play ground equipment, and their school mascot painted on the cafeteria wall!  There are many opportunities to serve with Wendell Phillips throughout the year as a helper in the incentive store once a month, as a tutor once a week, and through the back to school supply and uniform drive.  For more information on these serving opportunities, check out the Education and Life Skills Ministry webpage or email us at

Until We Serve  Again

I hope you'll be inspired and plug in to upcoming opportunities!  I look forward to hearing and sharing stories of your journey as you come to know, love, and serve God with RezDowntown.  Look forward to another update towards the end of July and after our Global mission team returns from Malawi!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Patrick
