Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs!

I will have to admit, I wasn’t looking forward to a full afternoon and evening Zoom meeting yesterday for our Church Council planning retreat. Zooming for long periods of time can be exhausting, right!? However, surprisingly, I found this time to be a really engaging and it left me feeling hope-filled and excited for our future.

During our gathering, we discussed what we have learned and accomplished throughout this pandemic so far, we talked about the future of Resurrection and how we might become more effective at building Christian community with younger generations so we can continue to change lives, strengthen churches and transform our world. I always come away from these gatherings grateful for the passion, commitment and deep faith of our church leaders, both lay and clergy.

We’ll be sharing more about our conversation in the near future.

Serve with Us!

This week we have several opportunities to serve. Coming first is our Blood Drive this Thursday, November 19 from 3–6:30 pm. Walk-ins are welcome, but you can save time by signing up for an appointment here.

Then on November 21 is our next Serve Saturday. You can sign up to serve in person at several of our partner organizations throughout KC and work alongside other members of Resurrection. Check out the Serve Saturday webpage to learn more and register for one of the sites.

If you’re not comfortable serving in person, you can help with our November donation drive for Winter Warmth. We are collecting new and gently used winter coats, hats, scarves, gloves to be given to families across the city. You can bring donations if you attend in-person worship or drop off on Sunday, November 22 from 12:30 – 2:30 pm.

Another option is to provide thanksgiving meals to those in need through JOY in Serving’s Thanksgiving fund.

Worship this Week

This Sunday in worship, we continue our Uncommon Generosity series by taking a look at a moment in scripture "When Little Becomes Much." We’ll explore Jesus’ feeding of the 5,000 in John’s gospel and also hear local stories of multiplication and generosity that will inspire you. Invite friends to join us online at starting on Saturday evening at 5 pm or on Sunday at 7:30 am, 9:15, 11 or 5 pm. If you're comfortable attending worship in person, we would love to see you at 11 am.

(Note: We no longer require pre-registration for worship. However, if you would like your kids to attend KiDSCOR, please register here! For youth Sunday gathering and rezlife LIVE, registration is online here. We will continue to follow the safety protocols we have set in place.)

As we continue to move towards Advent, we want to encourage every household to participate in worship with us from home by lighting an advent wreath along with us in worship. You can sign up to pick up an Advent Wreath Kit complete with a wreath, weekly guide, devotion, and fun crafts and activities for the whole family. You can also pick up this month’s KiDSCOR Family Experience Kit (to go along with the wreath) as a way to prepare our hearts and minds for the birth of Christ. Click here to sign up for a kit. You can also download other Advent resources here for use in your home.

Your first chance to pick up both kits will be next Sunday, Nov. 22 from 12:30 to 2:30 pm at our campus, 601 NE Jefferson Street in Blue Springs. We will also have pick up times on Sunday, November 29, from 12:30 to 2:30 pm and Wednesday evening, December 2, from 6:30 to 8 pm.

Thinking about becoming a Member?

Finally, if have been worshiping with us for a while and feel like you might be ready to take a next step in your faith journey, I want to invite you to join us at Coffee with the Pastors online this Sunday, Nov. 15 at 2 pm.

You’ll learn about the history of Resurrection, hear from Senior Pastor Adam Hamilton on the beliefs and traditions of the United Methodist Church, and get to know the church a bit better. You’ll also have an opportunity to connect with our Resurrection Blue Springs worshipers, meet our staff, and hear about opportunities to serve, connect and grow!

I continue to hold you all in prayer and look forward to the day we are together in person. Please let us know if there our ways we can support you during this time.
