Growing as a Family

Greetings RezDowntowners,

This is the beginning of a huge weekend! We have lots to celebrate and be thankful for. One thing we'll celebrate is a milestone in the lives of our 3rd graders. Today is your last chance to sign up (or for parents to sign up their kids) to receive a 3rd Grade Bible this Sunday. Email Sarah.Elliott@cor.org before the end of the day today if you would like your 3rd grader to participate in the 3rd Grade Bible presentation at the 9 am service. We're planning to host a Bible exploration class for kids to learn how to navigate their new Bible in January of 2020 as well. Stay tuned for details! I continue to be amazed by our KiDSCOR programming and ministry.

Three years ago, when we set out to build our building at 1601 Grand, one of the top priorities was to create space for our children and youth to grow in their love of Christ, and it's happening. I consider our generational growth to be a direct byproduct of your faithfulness, generosity and commitment to doing whatever it takes in order to build Christian community in this city! Thank you.

This weekend in worship is also Commitment Weekend; we'll invite all of our members to turn in their annual pledge cards, as an expression of our ongoing faithfulness and generosity. This is one of my favorite weekends of the year, because as each member walks forward to place their commitment on the altar, I have the opportunity to reflect over the many ways God has used and multiplied your gifts to literally change the landscape here in Kansas City and beyond. I pray that you will join Wendy and me in prayerfully considering how God is calling you into a life of generosity, and by filling out your commitment card and placing it on the altar this weekend. If you are unable to join us in person, please fill out our online commitment card here: cor.org/downtown/commitment. I am grateful for you.

Attention High School students (Grades 9–12)! Join us at Youthfront West in Edgerton, KS, Nov. 15–17, for a weekend filled with outdoor games, campfires, hayrides, worship activities in large and small group settings, and time for students to grow deeper in their faith. Check out details and register at cor.org/downtown/events.

Finally, you are personally invited to celebrate with Resurrection Downtown on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 7 – 8:30 pm at 1601 Grand; we’re honored to have been a part of Kansas City for 10 years! One of the ways we’ll celebrate is with a special evening for our volunteers. You'll hear from both Pastor Adam and myself, and enjoy specialty desserts and sparkling beverages. If you’re a regular volunteer in any of our ministries, OR if you wish to become one, please register for this event here!

It was fun to share our news last week: Wendy and I are having a baby girl in April! I have appreciated getting so many words of congratulations and celebration. I am excited for our future, not only as a family, but as a congregation that continues to grow in ways that surpass anything I could ask for or imagine. Have a great Friday and I'll see you this weekend in worship!

With Grace, Peace and God's Holy Adventure,

Scott
