Resurrection West,

It’s wonderful to greet you this afternoon even if it’s only through email. Being connected digitally by email and social media is not as good as the real thing, but I’m grateful for the technology to connect in that way. I hope you’ll consider reaching out to anyone you know who may not be on the various social media platforms, or own a computer, or have internet access. Please reach out to them by phone or a note to let them know you care. This is so important right now!

This weekend we will continue with ONLINE WORSHIP ONLY on Saturday at 5pm and Sunday at 7:30am, 9:15am, 11am, & 5pm at rezonline.org. Pastor Adam will be preaching about when Jesus spent time breaking bread with Mary and Martha. He will be preaching from his own kitchen table as we all take care of one another with social distancing between our campus pastors and worship leaders. You will see me helping to lead online worship again, along with Lindsay Blacksher (formerly Lindsay Hefner), our Director of Worship Arts. We celebrate with Lindsay and Caleb as they were united in marriage last weekend!

We believe connecting with one another right now is more important than ever, so one way we can stay connected in our smaller groups and community groups is through the use of Zoom. We decided as a church to fund every small group and community group leader with a Zoom account for the next four months. Zoom gives you the capability of hosting many people together for online video studies, prayer, and connection. I’m in a Zoom class today through Saint Paul School of Theology. Dave Robertson, Director of Adult Discipleship and Outreach, will be in contact with all group leaders to invite you to setup your account and continue to gather online until the time comes when we will be able to connect in person again. I’m really excited about this!

For the time being our West Campus building is closed, but please don’t hesitate to reach out and call. The office line is 913-538-7800 or for after hours emergent care, call the paging line at 913-314-6058. Our administrative staff will be monitoring calls daily. We have begun to cancel more upcoming events (along with our weekly program gatherings) due to our circumstances. Alpha Marriage, Upward Spring Soccer, and Coffee with the Pastors are now cancelled.

We’ve been planning for a more robust presence through RezWest Facebook Live and Instagram Live. Here is the weekly schedule:

  • Sunday @10:35am - FB Live KiDSCOR West Sunday School
  • Monday @10am - FB Live Care Moment with Pastor Chris Holliday
  • Tuesday @8pm - FB Live Devotion with Pastor Adam
  • Wednesday
    • @1pm - FB and INSTA Live Rezlife West with Rick & Jacob.
    • @3pm - FB Live KiDSCOR with Christie, Kayla, Lynnlea, & Ashley
  • Thursday @7pm - FB Live Devotion with Pastor Jason, along with beautiful music by Lindsay & Jacob

Children can also continue the great weekly learning that they’re used to on Sundays right from home! High quality, fun Bible story videos and simple parent guides are available for all, complete with a relevant game, activity and prayer to say together.

  • Preschoolers hear from their friend, Ollie, and the Clubhouse gang
  • K-3rd graders get an update from Erica as she tackles more DIY projects on her house
  • 4th and 5th graders check in with Jon, Branden and Kellen from the So & So Show (grownups will love this trio, too!)

As for missions and serving our community:  Fortunately and with just a few modifications, we are able to continue the weekly partner school backpack program. We are thankful to have enough backpack volunteers for now. The school districts are also helping with food needs; and we will continue working together to do what seems best for the students and families. If you’d like to help with another local need, please visit cor.org/west/localimpact.

Resurrection West is not currently a drop-off zone; but each website serve suggestion is very specific about where to take donations. As new opportunities develop, we will add them to the online list. You are also encouraged to find ways to “love your neighbors”, including caring for family, literal neighbors, co-workers, church friends, those whom you know are struggling and more.

Thank you for sharing God’s light in this challenging time. Please invite your friends and family across the globe to join us in worship this weekend and we hope you’ll share a photo of you and yours viewing online worship together by posting, tagging, and sharing through your social media.

See you in worship (online) this weekend!

Jason
