Candlelight Christmas Eve - A Return to Christmas Tradition

It’s nearly Christmas Eve! Throughout Advent, Claire and I have filled our tree with gifts and reflected on our lives just a year ago—Adalynn hadn’t yet arrived, we had recently moved into our new home, and we worshiped together online. The best gift we received last year was the arrival of our little girl. And, this Advent, I’ve loved seeing Adalynn’s eyes light up in the glow of the Christmas tree, with the crinkle of the presents, and the excitement. I give thanks for the gift of a child, and for the coming of the Christ child.

As we prepare for the coming Christ child, plan to join us for our Candlelight Christmas Eve services at Resurrection Overland Park, Friday, December 24. We have three services planned at 3 pm, 5 pm, and 7 pm. Each service will include beautiful Christmas music, a message of hope and the traditional passing of the candlelight. It’s a wonderful opportunity to invite your friends and family to join you!

On Candlelight Christmas Eve, we give away the entire offering. Half the offering will support our local missions (backpacks for hunger, partner school ministries, and Afghan refugee resettlement) and the other half will support international partnerships and projects in Malawi, partner schools in South Africa, and economic development in Haiti. Your offering makes this and so much more possible! I want to encourage you to give generously this Christmas Eve as we celebrate the light of Christ and share it with others!

Just a reminder, all locations will have just one worship service at 9 am on Sunday, December 26. I look forward to preaching live at our location and also enjoying a free pancake breakfast with all of you after the service.

As you plan for your year-end giving, I want to let you know our church office will be closed Monday, December 27 - Friday, December 31. Our staff will share in the holiday joy with friends and family. Our regularly scheduled Recovery programs and the Food Pantry will remain open. For care emergencies, the pager is: 913-544-0799. Donations can be mailed to COR Finance Department at 13720 Roe Ave, Leawood Kansas 66224, postmarked on or before December 31. If you haven’t yet had the chance to submit your pledge, you can do so here. Thank you for your generosity throughout the holiday season!

Finally, we still need volunteers at our Christmas Eve services, particularly in the Nursery. If you are able to play with children at one service and worship at a different service, or if you’d like to serve as a Greeter, please register here.

With Anticipation,

Joshua Clough
