Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
It’s been a flurry of activity this week decorating the church in preparation for Advent. During the four week period of Advent, we prepare for and anticipate the coming of Christ. We remember the longing of Jews for a Messiah and our own longing – and need – for forgiveness, salvation and a new beginning. Even as we look back and celebrate the birth of Jesus in a humble stable in Bethlehem, we also look forward anticipating the second coming of Christ as the fulfillment of all that was promised by his first coming.
We’ll start our Advent season with our children on Saturday at our annual Breakfast with Santa. This year we have a Polar Express theme, so we encourage everyone, including you, to wear pajamas! We’ll have pancakes and a hot chocolate bar, a performance by our children’s choir, and a couple of special activities before “you-know-who” makes his special entrance. Bring your children and invite your neighbors and friends to participate in the fun.
Then on Sunday, Pastor Adam begins our Advent sermon series: Preparing the Way for Christmas. For 2,000 years Christians have turned to the story and message of John the Baptist in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Join us as we explore the fascinating story of this visionary who prepared the way for Jesus. Click here to see a video you can share to invite others to worship.
A few weeks ago, I announced that I would be leading a trip to the Holy Land next year with our Downtown and West Campus Pastors. We now have the registration link for the 2019 trip. As it stands, we will depart from Kansas City on Oct. 19 and return on October 28 with an optional extension to visit Petra. Our Holy Land Pilgrimage will follow a chronological account of Jesus’ life — we will literally walk in the footsteps of Jesus. It is a life-changing experience. If you're interested in joining me, please register or check out more about the trip here!
FinalIy, over the past two weekends Resurrection Blue Springs members and those who consider Resurrection Blue Springs to be their church home have been making their 2019 financial commitments. Through these commitments we are able to fulfill our vision of changing lives, renewing churches and transforming the world.
After two weeks of receiving these commitments we have received 125 pledges. This number is slightly down from our previous year, probably because of the blizzard conditions last Sunday. I am happy to say that although the number of cards is smaller, we have had an increase in the average giving, but we still have quite a ways to go before we can fulfill our planned missions, ministry and outreach for the coming year.
If you haven’t been able to make your 2019 pledge, please bring it with you this weekend in worship or if you would prefer, you can make your pledge online.
I hope you’ll join us this weekend. I look forward to seeing you!
Grace and Peace for the journey,
Can’t find something? Let us help.
