Hello Resurrection Overland Park,
This weekend, we continue our sermon series, “What Would Jesus Say.” We’ll focus on the important topic of mental health. I encourage you to invite someone to worship this weekend. In a survey of more than 500 Millennials and Generation Z people at Resurrection, the two largest generations across the globe, mental health was identified as one of the top critical issues today. We’ll talk about what Jesus has to say about this critical issue and how we can work together across all generations. I’d love for you to share this video on social media, it can make a difference in someone’s life.
If you are new to Resurrection Overland Park or have been around for a while and want to discover next steps, join us this Sunday, January 12, for Getting Started, immediately following our 11 am worship service, in room 2. I’ll share about our church, and ways to get started here. No need to RSVP.
We kick off small groups this month, January 22, 6:30 to 8 pm! Small groups play an important role in spiritual growth, community connection, and life. We’d love for you to join a group. Our campus is still very young (we launched five months ago) but has grown quickly. Small groups are a great way to connect and build relationships. Some groups may meet at various times and locations, but we want to open the church for small groups to meet on Wednesday evenings at the campus, especially if your group needs childcare. Email BJ.Huffman@cor.org with questions. Groups will gather week-to-week from January 22 to April 8 to study, engage in social activities, and serve together.
There is an upcoming opportunity for your kids to learn about the Bible. Third through fifth graders, and their whole families, are invited to join us for Family Bible Exploration Night, January 24 from 6-8 pm. We will have dinner together, followed by activities to help children learn how to navigate their Bibles, and conclude the night with a church-wide scavenger hunt! Let us know if you are coming – email Lauren.Cook@cor.org.
Let me share and celebrate worship attendance numbers from Christmas Eve and the first of the year. We welcomed 1,114 people to our campus at Candlelight Christmas Eve Services. That is amazing! And I also thought I'd break down our worship numbers from the first Sunday of the new year:
9:30 am Modern Worship and Nursery – 290
KiDSCOR – 53 (including volunteers)
11:00 am Traditional Worship and Nursery – 231
KiDSCOR – 26 (including volunteers)
This means 600 people, kids and adults, across multiple generations gathered together last weekend. What an amazing way to start the year as we build Christian community where non-religious and nominally religious people are becoming deeply committed Christians. My hope is that we make worship a priority as we live into the five essential practices of faith: worship, study, serve, give, share.
One last note, it looks like snow is coming Friday night and into Saturday (the 50s and 60s were so nice!). As a reminder, at Resurrection, we do not cancel worship services for weather-related concerns. This said, stay safe, enjoy the snow and I can’t wait to see you on Sunday. I am grateful for you, Resurrection Overland Park!
