Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,

This Sunday is a special weekend. In conjunction with Suicide Prevention week, we are putting a pause on our Ten Commandments sermon series to talk about suicide. Pastor Adam will address why not, what to do if you suspect someone is suicidal, and how to find hope in the wake of suicide. We’ll also have representatives from Comprehensive Mental Health Services and the Zero Suicide Prevention Program here with information and resources. This is part of our 2019 initiative to closing the Justice and Kindness Gap, which is part of our larger Vision 2030 initiative (you can read more about here). Our goal is to reduce by half the 2017 number of suicides in our city. If you know someone struggling with this issue, please invite them to join us at 9:30 or 11 am this Sunday.

I also want to extend an invitation from our Downtown campus. Tonight is the First Friday of September and Downtown will be hosting a Family Fun Night in the 1601 Grand parking lot during First Fridays. They will have free hot dogs for everyone (while supplies last), bounce houses, crafts, face painting and ice cream for the kids from 6-7:30 pm. The KC Chiefs will also be there selling their Kingdom flags. This gathering will be especially poignant in light of recent tragedies and we want to show up to celebrate the best of Kansas City! I hope you'll join me there tonight. The limited parking that is there will be sold to support the Rose Brooks Center in honor of Erin Langhofer, and there should be street parking available as well.

Saturday, we have over 90 signed up for our Windows of Wonder Women’s conference. I’m excited about the plans for the day and look forward to gathering for a fun and informative day with the women of our community. Then on Sunday afternoon we have our annual Outdoor Baptism Service.

Every summer we hold an outdoor baptism service to offer an immersion experience for those who have not yet been baptized. It is also an opportunity for anyone to reaffirm their baptism vows. Baptism initiates people into the faith community and into a covenant relationship with God and God's people. Following a brief service of Baptism, we will share a potluck meal to celebrate these commitments. We invite the church community to be a part of this experience to acknowledge our commitment to come alongside those being baptized in the journey of faith.

A baptism meeting is required for those being baptized and will be held immediately following worship at 12:20 on Sunday. If you or one of your children is interested in being baptized, it is not too late to register. If you have questions, feel free to contact me.

I look forward to seeing you this weekend.

Grace and Peace,

Penny Ellwood
