Resurrection West,

The countdown to Christmas begins now! And what a celebration it will be as we prepare for the coming of the King this Advent season. Begin your Christmas celebration with our KiDSCOR Cookies & Carols Event this Saturday afternoon, 4-5:30 pm. There will be sweets, fun & games, carol singing, and a special visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus. All are welcome to the event, so come and fill your heart with child-like joy!

Then on Sunday, Pastor Adam begins a new series about rediscovering joy! We know joy is not only a state of mind, but a state of heart, so how do we live with joy all year long? This will be an inspiring sermon series as we approach Candlelight Christmas Eve and the coming of Christ this Christmas!

Thank you for another great week of pledge commitments for 2018 coming in. This is so important as we seek God-sized dreams through our church in the coming year! We are now at 350 commitments submitted. This is a significant increase over the 280 commitments we had received last year after the second week, bringing us closer to our goal of all members completing a card. Please take the time right now to go online at cor.org/commitment to complete your pledge or pick up up a card on Sunday in the usher stands around the Sanctuary and drop it in the offering plate. I am in continued prayer of gratefulness for the generosity of our congregation, so again thank you to those who have completed your commitment. Please pick up your mug as a token of our gratitude on Sunday.

Finally, I have now talked with three of our members who were shopping at Costco this past Sunday when Ronald Hunt entered with a gun, seeming intent on causing harm to many. Captain Michael Howell, who bravely confronted Mr. Hunt, was ultimately forced to shoot and kill him. I have been praying all week for Captain Howell, Mr. Hunt, and their family members. We can all imagine how much more terrible this could have been, but let us not forget the difficult mental anguish of taking a life or discovering a loved one was intending to harm others.

Michelle Anspaugh, committed member here at West, has offered counseling for anyone who may need someone to talk with. Michelle is an adult, child, and family therapist and has led workshops in the past here at Resurrection West when tragedies have happened in our community. I also wanted to be sure you know that we have an active counseling support team serving all of our campuses. Confidential counseling is available and we can connect you to help find healing. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Pastor Chris Holliday, who leads our care ministry here at Resurrection West and can connect you to the resources you may need. Email Chris at chris.holliday@cor.org. Thank you Michelle for offering care and counseling to anyone who may need it. I hope we all take time this weekend to share words, hugs, and quality time with those we love, never taking for granted the time we have together.

Please know that we take safety and security very seriously here as well. Joe Stubler, head of our security at Resurrection West and former KCK Detective, works closely with team of committed volunteers and security staff across all our campuses to provide a safe and secure environment. We are always evaluating how to increase safety and security to do our best to care for all who are a part of this faith community.

With a grateful and joy-filled heart,

Pastor Jason
