Daily Scripture

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t fear, because I am with you;
don’t be afraid, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
I will surely help you;
I will hold you
with my righteous strong hand.

Psalm 56:3-4

Whenever I’m afraid,
I put my trust in you—
in God, whose word I praise.
I trust in God; I won’t be afraid.
What can mere flesh do to me?

Prayer Tip

We are all driven to live our lives by different things. Some people are motivated to protect their family or become a financial success; others are motivated to make a difference for a specific cause or to acquire a certain social status or to make people around them happy. But since we are human, we cannot control everything. When we focus mainly on our own abilities and wishes, then any glitch or unexpected obstacle can lead us to fear. As we learn to focus on trusting God, living for God's kingdom and loving others, it is easier to avoid fear's debilitating effects.

Lord God, we are so grateful to know that you are love and “perfect love drives out all fear” (1 John 4:18). Help us to believe that and, therefore, to live our lives in a way that overcomes fear. It’s not easy for us to make a decision to just not be afraid. Fill us with your Holy Spirit and guide us as we learn to trust you more and be afraid less.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
